WI Strain Muskies Dont Get Big:

http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/cnr_images.asp?view=detail&photoid=...

Enough said. Maybe its low size limits, spearing, overharvest by non-cpr anglers, forage base, degradation of spawning habitat, pollution issues....I dont know, but I feel pretty confident that the large fish we're seeing out of Mille Lacs that appear to be WI "strain", and that makes ME think that in the right conditions, they DO get big. Yeah, it takes them longer, but they appear to get as big, if not bigger, than the other "super strains" that are seen as the end all of what to stock.

I'd personally rather get a big fat girl, than a longer skinnier one. I've done both and.....

It's the differences in habitat in my opinion that determine the ultimate size potential. If you took the same strain of MN fish we're seeing consistantly reach sizes of 50" and above and scattered them all over WI, it wouldn't necessarily mean that WI lakes would soon be turning out large numbers of really big fish.

Genetics is only one of several dozen factors that determine how big muskies get.
