What have you found to be a good de-greaser? (besides gas - I use that now and figured I should cease that practice)

Want to clean grease guns, trailer hitch balls, wheel bearing grease etc. Mostly for tools and equipment.

Thanks in advance.

Get a small automotive parts washer, and the solution that comes with. You can get this at Fleet Farms, Sam's, probably CostCo, and your local automotive store, Advance, O'Reilly, NAPA, etc.

Here's some resonable stuff from Tractor Supply.

Brakleen aerosol.

Works great but nasty stuff! HDX Degreaser by LPS is good too but eats paint and plastic.

This works

http://s-kstore.com/index.php/surface-degreaser-aerosol-twelve-15-5...

Foamy Engine Brite is great for anything you can spray and hose down if you have an area to do that.

Hand tools can go in the dishwasher when your wife isn't home.

Small parts, bolts, nuts/etc. I'd use a can of aerosol carburetor spray. That stuff dissolves anything, but it's hell on your skin, and it evaporates too quickly to soak much of anything.

Acetone!

1 Gal. at any hardware store is cheap and it really cuts. Use outside/ventilated area. And....don't smoke....*eyesroll*....

Regular ol Starting fluid works pretty good. it evaporates quick as well.
Not sure if I'm ready for the War that would happen if I was caught using the Dish Washer to degrease parts.

I have used various Citrus based or orange cleaners to clean off new heavy equipment I transport that get over lubricated and slopped up. Some call this stuff agent orange however not the same as the defoliant used in the mid 1960's by the U.S. Gov't. This cleaner does not harm the paint finish so far as I have seen. Probally environmentally safer too.

Laquer thinner.

Cuts anything and does not leave any residue.

Is very inexpemsive.

Dish detergent would be better than any of the recommendations I read. I mean where is the acetone or laquer thinner going to go? On the driveway or on the garage floor? Where will you put the now explosive rags?

Agreed. They use Dawn dish washing liquid to clean animals caught in oil spills, and crude oil is pretty nasty. It works.
