Subject: Phone apps

I saw a post that was specific to one type of app, so didn't want to derail that thread- but what apps does everyone use on their smartphones for fishing? mapping, weather, moon phases, anything else? Just upgraded phone and have the Navionics app and a weather one.. I will say that for me, the navionics app is well worth the money.. I boat hop a lot, and also ice fish many of the same bodies of water that I open water fish.. That app allows me to find waypoints regardless of what boat or snowmobile I am using on a given day. Considering that a GPS/fishfinder and Navionics chip would be hundreds of dollars, the app is really a no-brainer to me. I'm also considering biting the bullet and getting the life member precision trolling app.. then I've got it and its done.. though am just concerned that they will stop supporting app or something and I'd be out the money. Anyway, I'm curious what apps (paid or free) everyone else has used and found useful (or not useful)! Thanks

I tried a Google speed app for Google maps to double check my trolling speed but didn't help much as app was only good to even mph numbers, no tenths.

How accurate do you think the Navionics app is? Just heard about it yesterday and was thinking about it but for small lake ice fishing would like something that gets me within a few feet of a spot.

I don't think it's the accuracy of the app, but more so the accuracy of the gps on your device. I have navionics on my lg g2 and it seems too be pretty accurate.

Like any GPS/mapping chip, some lakes are mapped better than others- but this is the same mapping that they have on their chips and included in some Lowrance units.. Beyond that, I agree with muskie tamer-the gps on your device is what determines the accuracy.. That said, when you're not moving I think it's about as accurate as you could want.. When you are moving however, there is a fair amount of lag while it catches up to where you are at.. but slow down or stop, and it will catch up. I had it on a basic smartphone (Motorola Defy), and I felt it was quite accurate.. Have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini now, but have not used it on the water with this device yet. I would recommend it without hesitation. My only complaint is that when I installed it on my new device, my waypoints did not carry over. There probably is a way to do so, but I have not figured out how.

www.usprimetimes.com is the best one I have found out there.
This page should default to their mobile page when going to that website thru your phone.

I use "GPS essentials" for my GPS. Gives a dashboard with speed down to tenths of a mph, moon rise/set sun rise/set bearing, altitude etc and you can have that over Google maps. Works really well.
