Not just musky fishing, but no bananas in the boat, EVER!

The banana thing is silly. One of my uncles who's well knit into many fishing circles says a lot of guys will just lose it if you even MENTION bananas while fishing. Don't eat one the same day, don't talk about them, don't even think about that stinkin' yellow-skinned fruit!

I just realized a little too late - I'm wearing the same hat in all my fish pictures this year. And I wore that hat probably less than half of the time while fishing. So I guess it's a lucky hat.

I have a few. My latest one, one that is holding true is my lucky fishing partner Oscar. He is my wifes dog. I can't catch a fish without him on the boat. He likes going most of the time, unless its cold, then I have to carry him on the boat.

The first song we play as we leave town on a trip has to be Guitar Town by Steve Earle. No yellow lighters allowed on the boat. If they aren't biting you have to make an offering to the Musky Gods by going to the marina and eating a Don Juan Gut Bomb Burrito and a Monster Energy Drink. It galvanizes your guts and you'll get a Musky.

Absolutly no BANANAS!! was my first thought as well. lucky necklace, lucky hat-which has super glue on the edges. seems last 2 years the only time i can catch anything is to have my wife and oldest son in the boat as a netman. unfortunatly they are not coming with next weekend so we will see if that one will hold true.

are you the type of person who steps on every crack, walks under a ladder, and crosses a black cat's path?

I was thinking about sacrificing a goat on the Wednesday night league, but then we caught a fish. Never did the banana thing but my salmon fishing buddy has them in the boat all the time. "No wonder we can't catch a salmon" he's nickname is "One fish Timon"!

I am not really superstitious but I have fished with two people who offer to the musky gods, one tosses a chocolate donut into the water and the other a dime with a wish. At work we don't mention account names because when we do, they call in.

You can't look at pics of fish you just caught till we get in the truck. That's a jinx, you won't catch another if you do.We always roll up to the launch cranking peter frampton "do you feel like I do"and let it crank while prepping the boat for launch.after were on the water we always tip our bottles and give a little sacrifice to the Muskie gods. After a fish we have to take a pull of the bottle of stiff stuff and dump a little sip on the river for "Larry".

Lucky hat 2 of them one if it's raining.
Start the year with a new light coloured hat ( wear black all winter ) if I catch a muskie that's the hat if not try a different one next outing till I boat the years first fish. That hat is only used for fishing. My son in law gave me a waterproof DU hat I wear in the rain and I've caught fish wearing it so it must be OK. I have a orange T shirt I wear for tough times and an Operation Muskie shirt i quite like but I'm not superstitious .

Nothing has happened to me because of superstition.........Knock on Wood

I always drink blue Power-aid Zero when I need to bust a slump and it usually works.

I'm not superstitious...just a little 'stitious!

Funny! Subtle, but funny.

I don't believe or have any superstitions, but sometimes we joke about things like we have them. My Dad has brought bananas in the boat before. I can't remember if we caught fish those days, but the boat didn't sink and we didn't get struck by lightning.

I always have on some type of Nebraska gear on when I catch one so that must be my lucky charm. Also, I enjoy a banana before going out and don't recall it adversely effecting the fishing.

I have to start every day with that exact routine, otherwise, I shutter to even think of the bad luck that would most certainly result.

As soon as we launch the boat we wet the net. We've been doing this for years.

If I see or hit a skunk on the way to the lake is very bad luck. Might as well turn around and head home.

My buddies and I heard "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" on the way out to the river and had our best day ever. Now we listen to every time before we launch. Kind of a weird song to listen to before you go out on a boat. Another buddy says if you hear "today" by the smashing pumpkins on the radio on the way out you re gonna have a good day.

Hats. I have my lucky hat. I can't fish without it. My worst day ever thread? Different hat. I have a hat that will guarantee you a downpour. I have an evil hat. I had 15 fishless days in a row wearing that hat. I gave it to Samantha, thinking she'd have better luck with it. She wore it a few times on a trip and had a run of bad luck including falling in the boat and banging up her leg, and a bad case of the monthlies that was over a week early. Not to mention 95 degree weather and two straight days without a fish in the boat. I still have the hat. I was going to throw it in the street, stomp on the gas and do a giant burnout over it, but I was afraid it would infect my truck. I thought about shooting it. I was going to douse it in gas and set it on fire, but that didn't seem like enough, either. So I think the plan now is we're going to take it out on an island somewhere and blow it up. Anybody know a better way to kill an evil hat?

Long story...

There's an island on Eagle Lake called Smitty's Island. Some of you probably know of it. Smitty was a guide on Eagle. I'm not sure when he passed or how, but his friends put up a Canadian flag on the island where he caught his largest fish. Last time we were fishing that area, we went past and noticed that some joker had turned the flag upside down. That's just not right... So we beached the boat and fixed the flag, paid our reverence to Smitty, and went on about our fishing. We put 5 in the boat up to 47" in the next two hours. It got me to thinking about a few other times where we went out of our way to go pick up a piece of trash or a water bottle on the shoreline. Those seem to be the better days. We make it a point now to always leave the lake a better place than we found it, even if it's tossing a can in the trash at the landing.

Ha I had never heard the banana thing until this year. Now I dont even wear fruit of the loom underwear. White lighters are a no no and every time the GF is on the boat we catch a fish.

I don't have many things that seem to hold true, but my superstition that seems to work for me is "baptizing" my hat. It really works on new water, or if I haven't been on the water for a while. I only do this up until its around 60 outside. After that, the cold water down the back of the neck doesn't feel so good

This is a true story! My buddy who averages about 18-20 fish a year brought a banana in the boat the first trip of this year. He has caught 0 muskies this year and its not for a lack of trying. I know that he will never bring a banana in his boat again.
