Just finished part 3 of my bait making series! There's a little bit of scale carving in this video, but it mostly covers how I get a lure with a hinge joint ready to be molded.
Here's the link ----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8tEtDX24t8

Good video,Nate !!!

For the fish scales,you could use gouges with a curved cutting edge ,so you'll make/do them easily .

Just a question : will be that lure used to fish for musky/pike ?

Thanks!
Yeah I thought about making my own gouges for carving scales. That way it keeps everything super consistant, and I can make the grinds on the cutting edges extra thin too.
I would say this lure can be used for muskie, pike, and big bass. It will have an offset spinner blade, and a twister tail on the back. I'm making its mold right now, so by the end of 2maro I'll be able to cast some resin blanks and get them ready for testing and tweeking.

Unless this bait is to be through wired, or just used as a show piece; I would never trust that joint to fish with.

Otherwise, very very cool hand carving and artwork!

It's a mold blank. A nice one too!

The wooden carving you see in the video is a master blank of a lure that will be made of resin. Its silicone mold is curing right now and it'll be ready tonight! The oversized circumference of the hinge makes for an extremely tough joint. A fat stainless steel pin goes through the middle of a finished hinge. The resin I use has a very impresive tensile strength too. It's what they use to make hard hats, so the more resin you can get around the radius of the joint the better. I'll be sure to get some action video of this lure for you guys too.
