How much difference than a 60? Thanks yes a 50 reel will be a little slower at the start of the retreive, maybe by 2-3 inches but a high speed 6.4:1 has line pickup of 30.9 inches so not a big deal. Try 80lb braid that will help a little.

Posts: 256 Location: plant earth | Thanks pikemaster got my reels back and that 5 bearing on the 400d is amazing. It was smooth out of the box but now it's incredible. I didn't think it could cast further but even better now. Great work thanks.

Where did you put the 5th bearing on the 400D? I have one and wouldn't mind upgrading it a bit. Thanks

Thanks I replace the 2 bushings that are in each handle paddle with bearings and replace the plastic pinion bushing that is on the side off the spool with a ABEC 7 S.Steel bearing, that's 5 total and now U have a very smooth reel.

Hi, do you feel the quantum exo 300 6.6 would hold up as well as a curado and be as smooth if used with topwater and jerkbaits 6 oz and under? Seem to be good deals on the reel and if they are bascially the same might go with the quantom. Thanks!

Posts: 410 Location: Wakefield, MI | I found a 401TE yesterday at a small bait shop, the anti reverse didn't seem to work right. I tore it down last night and he anti reverse bearing had a little bit of factory grease in it, cleaned it out and it works great now. Does it need any oil or anything? I just wiped the outside with a q-tip. Also is there anything I should do to get this reel ready for pounders and big blades? I noticed a bushing on the spool, should I replace it with a bearing? How about power handles? And I guess I'd look into the drag if its worth upgrading. It's going on a 9' TI XXH rod with 80 pound power pro.

Posts: 426 Location: Perryville, MO | Alright Pikemaster, take it easy on me for such a silly question, but is it possible to swap gears from a right-handed Toro to a left-handed Toro. I'm about to purchase a 60HS for guests in the boat. I'd rather it wasn't the HS but had the 5.3:1 gears in order to be a bit more versatile. I have a couple of 61's and wouldn't mind one of them being a bit quicker if it's possible to interchange them. I have a feeling you may need me to get the numbers on the reel foot as I remember their being a difference in some versions. Thanks in advance for being kind. (I looked at the schematics and sadly got confused...I quess that's why I even leave the cleaning to the professionals).

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | If I'm not mistaken PM is enjoying the first of a couple Canada trips right now, but I can answer for him. No, LH and RH gears ate not interchangeable, i.e. can't put gears from a righty into a lefty.

Whenever i cast big baits with my 400D it takes a good amount of effort to get the handle to start turning after the bait hits that water, almost like it clicks in place. Its smooth on the retrieve. What causes this?
