Posts: 1203 Location: Walker, MN | Richard, Is there a difference between the old silver Daiwa Saltist and the new black ones other than self engaging spool? I still run the old one and have no problem manually flipping the lever. I'm just asking because I need two more and the silver ones can be had for cheap.

If not, do you have any after market versions? Shimano has NO and will never offer a Power Handle for the D reels. I have a A. Market Power Handle for the D reels that is Counter Balance and has a Ball Bearing foam paddle. $50.00 installed. Attachments ---------------- mjx-yQ1rXVaxDUf8HVeUl7g.jpg (1KB - 561 downloads)

Posts: 572 Location: Maplewood, MN | I have taken apart and cleaned a few reels with great results. It has been a few months. I took apart my NaCl and put it back together and seemed great but now when I tighten the drag, the handle tightens as well.... When the drag is almost completely locked down I can hardly move the handle. What the heck did I do?!

Some reels are easy to take apart and some are not. The Toro reels are not to hard but I get so many Calcutta TE in pieces, they are not to be taken apart by a rookie. Just text if you need help with your reels always willing to help.

It's a good reel for what you're asking for it to do and very comfortable. 3 year warranty so I wouldn't worry about parts at this point. I had to send mine in and was a quick turn around.

Posts: 114 | I have several mid 1990 C3's and C4's. After cleaning them, I found 2 that seem to have lost their cast control ability. I can adjust them to max pressure and them still seem to free spool. Should I look for missing, broken or maybe improperly installed parts? Any feed back will be of great help. Thanks, JMacD

Posts: 33 Location: Madison, WI | I have 70's models of the Ambassadeurs -5500C, 6000, 6000C and 6500. The 6000 was my dad's and I bought the 6500 new. I've had them cleaned and oiled every year but never repaired. They worked well enough. Last year I lost a decent fish. I couldn't set the hook. The drag was bad. It was good enough with smaller fish but when it mattered it let me down. I want all of these reels to work. I want them to work better than new. I plan on handing them down to my kids in the next few years and I want them to use them, not sit on a mantle collecting dust. But I want to give them good, working, lunker fighting tools. I'm really nervous about sending these reels anywhere but there's nobody in the Madison WI area that comes highly recommended. I know, I've spent over a month trying to find the right place to let work on, what is essentially, important pieces of me and my family's history. After reading hundreds of forum posts, PMR stands out as the most recommended, highly praised Ambassadeur Service providers. I looked for a website but I didn't find one. I'm ready to commit...what do I do next?
