Do you have any information about the ICAST show for 2013?
I saw that it is July 9-12 in Las Vegas.
Is the public invited like at SEMA or is it invitation only event with no public access?
I was just curious if you were planning on attending or have been in the past?

It is a Invitation only event, I was lucky to go in 2010, but will not be going this year. I think Steve W. goes but not sure about 2013.

Hey Pikemaster,

Is it possible to convert a BCX into a usable reel? I want to make it my sucker reel, but I am currently afraid that it will fail on me. I have taken it apart and cleaned it up myself, but i'm wondering if there are any parts that I could replace in it that will make it better and a more reliable reel?

Appreciate your thoughts!

The BCX is what it is a low cost reel, no you can not upgrade it, I can upgrade a C3 or C4.

Pikemaster, Any ideas what would make the thumb bar hard to enguage on a Curado 300e? It's only 2 years old (has been doing it for a while). I took it apart and cleaned out some parts, but that didn't seem to do it. Although, I may have not touched anything related to the tumb bar enguaging. I can still push it down, but I don't want to break something. If I pull back on the spool a touch, that seems to help make it easier to push in.

Thanks!

Without me looking at it I would say part # 3704 and 3703 are bent and need to be replaced. Hard to say without me seeing the reel, wait till July till I'm caught up and send it to me and I'll fix it in a week or 2.

Question.....on a one year old Curado 300e, it has become very "raspy" on the retrieve. i have thoroughly cleaned and re lubricated everything but it did not seem to solve the raspyness, although it is easier to cast/retrieve. Do you know which components i should be looking to purchase to solve the issue at hand? thanks

On the 300E they have 6.2:1 brass gears, the Main Gear is 42mm tall very large so the pinion is very small and if U use the 300 Curado for hard pulling baits the teeth on the pinion gears will fold over and U will feel a grinding sound, no biggie but sounds and feels BAD. Replace the Main and Pinion Gears and also ck the pinion bearing part # BNT 3621 on the schematic , the one under the 2 screws under the plastic cam, they will go bad also.

PIKEMASTER

I have an Okuma Cedros 400 round reel, got it used last year and the spool tension knob does nothing.  No matter how far I tighten it, it will not put any tension on the spool.  I'm assuming the previous owner left it too tight over a winter or just used it too tight in general.  I attached the schematics and am wondering what part numbers may need to be replaced.

Thanks!

Part # 302 and inside of part # 600 there should be a brass or fiber washer that will need to be replaced, you can make one out of a plastic milk jug and a pop can, put the plastic one first then the metal pop can one last.

Hi, I was curious if you felt the new 5.1 Lexa 300 would do well for the weekend warrior on DBL 10's? Any other thoughts on this reel would be great.

For the $$$ it is not a bad reel and it should reel in DBL 10 ok, U won't be able to burn them and at the end of the day your hand and wrist will hurt. If U use the reel to much for Big Blades the reel start to sound like a coffee grinder then you have to replace the gearing and the plastic bushing for the pinion. But for a guy using it 2-3 weeks out of the year it should be OK. The 5.1 reels will come with a 100mm long handle that should help out.

Thank you, do you feel the nacl 50 5.4 would be a better choice? It would be an all around reel with DBL 10 use. My other rod has a curado 300ej, so looking to have a reel for the other uses.

I have 5 EXO 300 and 200 reels, I use them for Pike with baits under 5oz, the EXO is only a 7oz reel so it is made from very light materials so I would not use it for hard pulling baits like the DCG 10-13 the Nacl 50 is the reel you are looking for. The EXO 300 would make a great top water or jerk bait reel, the 7.3:1 has 35" of line pickup in a very small light weight reel, that has Dual Anti - Reverse Pawls.

Richard, really like all your help. I might just go with a luna 253, for jerkbaits, surface, and dbl tens. Unless I really rip big baits, the luna should hold up I would guess. I think I like a smaller round reel better. Any thoughts on luna 253?

Very well build reel, but U have to use your thumb on the spool when ripping baits and on hook sets, this reel has no pawl to backup the AR Bearing so just keep a thumb on the spool and the reel will last for years.

Hey Pikemaster, I have a NACL 60 that is having a minor issue. After a cast, when I start my retrieve, the reel engages just fine when i start turning the handle. Sometimes during the retrieve (especially with DCG's) the reel feels like it disengages and engages again. I hope this isn't common. Do I need to contact ABU for warranty repairs ASAP, or is it something that can be dealt with after the season ends? I fish full days once or twice a week, and this is my main reel, I really don't want to be without it....

NO the 253 has a smaller handle but the handle from the 300 will fit the 253.

I have an avid AC300, when I turn the handle to engage the reel, sometimes there is a delay in the click of the reel engaging. What should I do? Also, if I sent in a reel, how long before I get it back roughly? Thanks.
