Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | FISHFINDER101 - 4/22/2014 10:35 AM I picked up a Curado 300ej for my brother at the madison expo this year. it was his first time using it last night and i asked to give it a try. I noticed it did not feel that smooth while reeling or casting. I checked the drag which was just about fully engaged and i could pull line way to easy. I didnt think this was right, I then picked up a Curado 200ej which i had in the boat and with the drag tighten i could hardly pull out any line with drag fully engaged. Something is not working properly on the 300, I feel that the line should not pull out that easily when the drag is fully set. We've both been using baitcasting reels for sometime now and never had this problem. It's not like we cranked down the drag as hard as we could either, just turned it til it was snug. Can you give me some feed back on what might be happening or how to fix this problem. On all Curado reels the Drag is made for Bass fishing as is the reel, so on all Curado reels I install Carbontex drag washers and that will give you the drag that you are looking for in Musky fishing. $15.00 appox installed, also I add a metal drag washer on the drive shaft. Curado reels will never be smooth, just how they are.

Posts: 345 Location: Poynette WI. | I will suggest that to my brother. One other question, why is the 300's drag not as tight as the 200's drag when we set it all the way? I really appreciate the feedback also! Thanks.

Posts: 149 | I bought a used NACL 50 HS. It looks brand new but is a little noisy when casting compared to a Curado. It doesn't seem to cast nearly as far either. The reel grinds occasionally on the retrieve. I took the side plate off and noticed the big white plastic gear that turns the level wind just kind of sits in place not really held by anything. Is this normal? Also, the two gears that are on top of the spool spindle move a bit. Do I have a problem or are these reels just not as quite and smooth as the curados?

I would say your Toro has been abused, most are very smooth and alot smoother then any Curado. That gear is missing a e-clip.

Posts: 149 | Thanks. I looked at diagram for NACL but couldn't find missing piece. From the diagram, it looks like bearing house should attach to gear or somehow keep gear from moving but I can't figure it out. If I put my finger on line guide, the handle and spool will spin but line guide won't move. I guess the reel is junk. Live and learn.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | 1144222 and 1144223 are what holds the idle gear in place, which turns worm gear. If the worm gear turns but the line guide doesn't travel back and forth then the line guide pawl is not engaging the worm gear. Simple fixes and stuff happens, often the result if wear and tear. The reel is not junk.

The reel is far from JUNK but it will need some parts for sure, send me the reel and I'll see what it needs and get it back like new, with a $25.00 Detail, Tune and Relube and a few parts should be under $40-$50 Total send yo RICHARD W SCHMITZ 90 HILLSMAN LANE SENECA IL 61360

Posts: 149 | Thanks guys. Got a new reel and looked. The stem on the bearing housing that the screw goes into snapped off. So I need a new bearing housing and maybe a new collar.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | FYI if U send me a reel in 6.1:1 to 7.1:1 for cleaning and if it is over 1-2 years old the reel should have the gears replaced, if U don't when I put it back together the gears are now in a different position and it will sound like a coffee grinder. I have had alot of the Lexa 300 and all have sounded terrible when I put them back together. Even 5.1:1 gears over time and if you use that reel for DCG alot will sound loud over time.

Parts are a nitemare so I'm waiting on so many parts. Thanks for your understanding.

What should/shouldn't I lube and what should/shouldn't I grease? Grease gears, level wind and frame bearings. Oil spool bearings and any metal to metal contact points like the cast push button. DO NOT OVER GREASE and OIL. lite coat of grease and 1-2 drops of oil for each spool bearings. READ your OWNERS MANUAL it will tell U what to oil and grease. GOOD LUCK On Fri I got 5 phone calls from guys taking reels apart before the Wisc Opener and could not get the reel back together, FUNNY

Posts: 410 Location: one foot over the line | Howdy, i have a Diawa Regal 3500xia ratio of 5.3:1 spin-caster that the anti-reverse has stopped working. Although this wasn't the most expensive reel, it pairs SO well with the rod i have it on, and they don't make it anymore, i was wondering if this would be anything that you might want to take a look at? thanks, matt

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | That can be a very easy fix. Take your spool off, then the rotor nut, then the entire rotor. You should be able to see the anti reverse lever fitting inside the the little tongue that sticks out of the roller clutch. when you flip the anti reverse lever it engages or disengages the roller clutch. either the tip of the anti reverse lever broke off or it fell out place and you need to stick the tip of it back in the hole on that little tongue. if that makes any sense.

I do this because I take my time and do so so much more then anyone doing reels but I can't keep up ????????????? I may only do certain brand of reels or raise my price, not sure ????? I have a full time job so if I only did reels but there is no $$$ in doing reels. I do this because I love tuning reels. In Sept, I take 2-6 trips to Canada, also doing a few trips to LSC, what a BIG fish pond that is.
