What's the current turn around time if I send ya a couple of TE's and maybe a D for the bearing upgrade. Goin on a trip on sept. 20th. I'm in the western burbs of Chicago... hopefully quick shipping.

Today is Sept 11 so NO WAY I can have them back to U by Sept 20, and I'm 3-4 weeks backup on reels as we speak. Send them after your trip and U will have them for next year all ready to fish with. Don't wait till Spring to send them I'm backup 2 - 3 months then.

Hey PM. Had a friend ask me if I could convert his Tekota 600 so that the reel would engage when the handle is turned like the 600LC. The 600 has to be done manually.
Looked over the schematics and other than the addition of the clutch parts (part nr's 631 to 636, ratchet, and 2 side plate screws) and a different part numbered right side plate, the reels are the same.
Is it doable? Would I need a new right side plate or will it fit?

Thanks

Larry

Got a response back from Shimano that this is doable. If anyone is interested, parts needed are TGT0631 to TGT0636 and TGT0644.

Thanks all

If U Have Shimano Tekota 500-600LC trolling reels get them to me now before trolling starts in OCT / NOV for a Detail, Tune and Relube, I can also upgrade Drags to Carbontex and replace the plastic bushing on the drive shaft with a bearing.

I was casting a large twin blade inline spinner when for some reason, just after releasing the bait, my bail clicked closed. there was the sound of grinding / breaking gears, and after that my reel handle now moves forward & BACKWARD. It is as if I have reverse on my reel now. The reel is an Abu 5500 series. CAN THIS BE FIXED??? I leave for Vilas Co , WI for a 6 day trip on OCT 17! is repair possible by then?

Sounds like the AR Bearing is blown and the Gears are bad you are talking $50.00 plus in parts so I would send back to ABU in Iowa. They should have it back by the 17th ????

ABU 6500 C4 reel.
Pikemaster. I don't really know how this will affect the reels performance, but I want to increase the cranking power of this reel. Can I go as low as 4.3:1 or should I settle at 5.3:1?

Thanks

4.3:1 is very slow, maybe 20" of line pickup, great for night fishing but the 5.3:1 will be a better all around gears.

With the Avid AC300 lacking an anti-reverse, what techniques is it best used for?

Make sure the AR Bearings is clean and has a few drops of oil NO GREASE !!!
Then just keep a thumb on the spool when ripping smaller baits and on hook sets and U will be fine. I would NOT use a Luna or AC 300 for Pounders or Big Jakes ripping them. Best to install a new AR Bearing every year.

Hey PIKEMASTER,

I've got an OLD 6000C Abu reel that came out of storage that I was hoping to use as a backup. I've found that the gearing brings in lures at an incredibly slow speed. It even seems like ton of work just to bring in a Suick. If what I found online is correct the ratio is 3.8:1

are there any mods that can be made that will change the gear ratio to make it a little more realistic to use nowadays?

Thanks!

Gosh if the gearing is that low it should be extremely easy, at least for lighter weight lures. Of course bearings and handle size and spool size all come into play, but just in general that low a ratio should not feel "hard" to reel.

It does not feel hard to reel it in. It's just a difficult gear ratio to work with in the way of picking up slack, etc.

Old gears for that reel are hard to find, U can find used 5.3:1 6500 on Ebay for $50.00, gears will run $30.00.

Richard, I have problem with drag on Okuma Cold water. Looks like it is common problem since I found several complaints about. It. The drag friction changes on its own. Any tip how to make it smooth without sending it back to Okuma. I actually lost good size fish since the drag locked up on me, and it straighten hooks on 14" grandma
Thanks

If the reel is less then a year old send it back to OKUMA
I have never had one apart so not sure Y the drag would back on - off ???
I can up grade drag washers to Carbontex and add a spring washer if I can.
