Got an order in from Dick today with some 13s and Mag Flash. I'll tell you one thing, this flash is MUCH easier to work with than that limp stuff. I put a 10 blade in the picture for perspective.

I figure cost about $12 to make...

I hope it works!

Wow, what a beast! The #13 blade totally dwarfs a #10. Gonna have to order a few of these. Right now it sounds like Moores is the only place that carries them correct?

Anybody have any idea if painted versions of this blade will be available in the near future?

You can get them at Hagen's also. I'm putting them on some spinnerbaits & plan on trying to paint my own.

I agree, the magnum flash works great. What size hooks are on your bait? Are those 5/0? You may want to upsize to 7/0 or 8/0.

Thanks, boots...Pred...I honestly haven't got too caught up in the whole "Gotta have 7-8/0 hooks craze". I've gone 50, 48, 47, 47 ,46.5, 46, 46, etc..over the past two seasons on my baits and the fish haven't minded the HD 5/0 hooks...I haven't had problems with fish shaking off either....

Not so say I wouldn't use a 7/0, I'm just not convinced it's that important.

Now I'll critique myself....looking again at those blades, I worry the blades will cover that top hook and prevent hook-ups. I think I'll cut it apart and put that hook in between the two flash skirts....maybe add some spacers to give the hooks some space between them.

My original thought was that the larger hooks seem to have much longer shafts. Man, those 13's do make the 5/0 hooks look tiny or what. On mine I place the upper hook between the two skirts to push it down farther, then there is a split ring in between the two skirts.

That isnt a "marked map" in the background, is it?

I was wondering what flash to use when making bucktails. I was told that certain flashabou will become a knot. Thanks Todd

THis is the best stuff I"ve found.

Go to mooreslures.com and search the PDF catalog. It is called Magnum Flashabou.

$6 of material makes one bait.

You can also pick up the magnum flash at Cabelas website and I scored some at Rollie and Helens booth at the Chicago show. Not sure about their website.

Regular flashabou will knot up after awhile, it is better used as an accent under bucktail.

Holographic flashabou seems stiffer at first but after awhile will do the same. Still better than regular.

Magnum flashabou is just right!!

I must be loony 'cuz I kinda like the reg. flash better. Now, I don't use a second hook on mine because the material WAS knotting up around it and it just makes unhooking fish easier especially if they inhale it. There are more strands in the reg flash, but maybe the added width of the mag flash makes up for it.

Just curious how you guys were getting knots?

I had some knotting on the front hook, but it still caught fish. If you're going with one hook the reg. flash is just fine. The one thing to look out for with the reg. flash is that you put the clevises far enough away from the front set of flash....if the flash can reach the clevis, it will get tangled in there and they won't spin...at least I've found that....my fix was to put the blades further from the flash or else shorten the flash on the front set....

That is one pack. The strands are twice as long as regular flash..I pulled them through skirt bands half way through each end then cut in the middle...then loaded onto a skirt body...then added plastic pull-ties around the skirt bands to secure them in place....much easier then trying to tie them.
