October 6th was a great day for big fish in Canada as well. This 58 inch fish was released from lake Nipissing, sure has enough girth to be over 60 lbs but 65lbs? We'll never know.

In reality I would say no, but close... When comparing it to the Spray fish, most def. a world record

Nice Fish, Surley a contender for the WR, Makes Louies Fish look small by comparison

Bigger that sprays fish but no world record for sure...maybe pushing the 60 lb mark but it takes a heck of a fish to get to 60 pounds...we'll never know though...congrats to the angler for sure though...that truly is a freaking stuck pig...

If Steve's client's huge fish, and that huge fish can be caught on the same day, you would think I could catch one casting.

Congratulations on that monster.

that's a big fish.

how big? who am i to say?
i'm not going to say "yes it is" or "no, but close" or "maybe pushing the 60lb mark."
i don't have any experience handling 50lb or 60lb class fish. do you?

i can see it's BIG.
congrats to the angler, amazing fish.

What were the dimensions on Ken Obrien's fish? This one looks to be close to his fish.

Thanks for the link, Richard. This is the year of the big girl, alright. Slamr and I were just talking about this; second fish from Canada this year that hit the 58" mark. It's not that fish like this haven't been caught years past, just that we now hear about them and fast due to modern electronic communication.

Look at the number of big fish in the Rick Lax Reproduction contest. 207 big girls with an overall average of 48.5 right now. Keep in mind the minumum to enter is 45. Some big fish caught for sure.

Hard to believe that muskie fishing can be getting better with bigger fish been caught all the time.

The scary thing is there is still 2 months left in the muskie season and we already have a 50 and 60 pounder caught so early.

I remember many moons ago the 27 inch girth pig I caught was on October 4th.

This is going to be a big fish fall for sure. Can't wait to see many more of the big girls, and with any luck one or two will make it into my boat.

Congratulations!!! I can never imagine something like that....I thought my 51" from LOTW was big...goes to show that fishing can be as good as in the "good 'ol days!".
I think the most important thing here is not that he caught this fish, but that he had enough sport to release it as well. Thank you to the man who caught it...it's fish & fishermen like these that let us know a world record is possible and can be broken.
Congrats once again.

Wish he would have girthed this one.Definitely a world record class fish, but we'll never know. That would be a tough one to release, and why I only buy Conservation licenses in Canada. That takes away the decision making process for me.Congrats on a true released trophy.

Wow!!! i like it when the fat just ripples through the fish. No doubt on length too when the fish just 'droops' over the guy. Thanks for sharing it. no way for me to estimate size of any fish from alot of photos not knowing any specifics. i can estimate one thing though, and that it is a tank!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot beleive the big ones that have been caught between 04' and 06'. Best years for alot of us here, and obviously alot of the guys north and east too. Lets hope it keeps up. Richard, with the way things are shaping up, we may not have two more months of season...LOL. We just started harvesting my buddies 75 acre cranberry marsh yesterday, and they may flood the whole thing up to save the vines with the deep freeze on its way. Looks like it may break this weekend..?...

The article stated them as saying it was a 40 year old fish. Isn't 16 years of age pushing any of the known life spans of these fish?

That's truly the fish of a lifetime. I wonder how long it took him to regain his composure after releasing her. Hat's off to the angler for releasing her.
