$hit happens.
I don't know where this happened but I know it can happen. I aways keep the clients in the safe zones and practive safety in my boat.

Location: minneapolis | A partner of mine was fishing 3 to a boat on leech years ago when he got nailed in the head with a suick. The worse part was- the hooks buried into his skull so hard that on the forward cast ( the split second when you know the lure is stuck somewhere behind you ) the hooks pulled out from the bait leaving a set of trebles deep in his skull.
Luckily he's got a very thick skull as the surgeon was able to get the hooks out with any damage.
So- a bad as this accident is- it could have been much worse had the lure not stopped upon impalement but continued a forward direction as well.

Location: Lino Lakes, MN | Those are pretty dang graphic, but a good warning for people to be careful with their casting and to ALWAYS wear glasses. Even when fishing at night I wear glasses with clear lenses. My cousin was walleye fishing a few years back and snagged a log...the line snapped and a split-shot came flying back and got him in the eye. He lost most of his vision in the eye and is very lucky that he didnt lose it completely. From that day on Ive always worn glasses and bring extras in the boat for friends. I might have to bust these pics out the next time that someone doesnt want to wear them. These are definitely the most graphic hook related pictures I have seen though. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | More than likely he will have full vision in his eye afterwards, that hook isn't long enought to reach the posterior chamber of the eye. Pretty nasty though, I have seen them stuck everywhere but there. |

I agree when I first saw the pictures I just got off the internet and had a very sick feeling in my stomach. To read the posts I just scrolled down past the pics before they loaded. I haven't read all of Mike's post. Did this happen while getting out of a snag? That would be my guess since his face looks like he went a couple rounds with a young Mike Tyson.
Bone will stop the hooks from penetrating so the skull isn't a bad spot to get hooked....at least that is what the Docter who removed a 7/0 treble hook from my finger told me. My hook went sideways into my finger.
That is the most graphic fishing injury that I have ever scene. I hope he is OK. I think I will go purchase some clear glasses today.

Location: Iowa | Looks like what I just did to my eye except without the hook part...mine was chopsticks to the eye which cut my conjunctiva causing my eyeball to bleed for about 20 minutes squirting blood from my eye...you wonder how I stabbed myself in the eye with chop sticks...I had them in my hand and was trying to take a frisbee from a dog when he let go and they came up and hit me in the eye...a trip to the ER and an hour and a half later I was home with a truly red eye...1/8th of an inch closer to the middle or my eye and I prolly would have been in the same situation as this unfortunate individual...Here are the pictures of the aftermath of stabbing yourself in the eye with chopsticks...this happened 07/29/2006 at about 10:00 at night sober non the less...I thought I was gonna be blind...

( JohnMD) so I rcvd a ton of e-mails describing various injuries related to Fishing, Two of the most memorable
ones are
1: This is from someone we all know but I will never tell who it is
While fishing in Vilas Co. this person caught a 44 incher ( His Biggest ) on a 10 inch Jake, After unhooking
The fish he set the Jake on the seat, took a few pics and successfully released the fish. In the excitement after releasing the fish he just sat down but forgot about the Jake, He was hooked in the rear thigh and jewel sack
In such a manner that he could not stand or sit but could only lay on the floor of the boat in the fetal position,
His partner that day could not remove the hooks or cut them off ( Improper Release Tools ) and every time his partner tried to move the Jake the hooks just buried deeper, So on the Cell Phone to call paramedics and meet them at the landing, When the Paramedics saw what happened they decided to leave him in the fetal position until they got to the emergency room, The Docs successfully removed the Jake after some minor surgery and the poor victim was fishing again later that day.
2: E-mail from another Musky 1st poster
While fishing on LOTW my friend got a call from Mother Nature, so I beached the boat, he grabbed a roll
Of TP and into the woods he went, A few minutes later there was this terrible screaming I looked up to see my friend running through the brush with no slacks on and then diving into the lake, It seems that he did not look where he was squatting and the first bomb fell onto a hornets nest, He only got 2 stings on his arse for his effort.
I did manage to get his pants back before we left but it was a long painful ride back to the lodge where fortunately one of the guests was a Doc.
Moral: Be careful anything can happen

| Amazing pics. I have had the priveledge to remove hooks from two people already this year. Nothing like the ones posted already. Both of the hooks I removed were self inflicted (I am somewhat safe to fish with).

Location: Altoona, IA | Wow that nasty to say the least. Hope all is well, I do were glasses... to see but will think about safety glasses from here on out. Never been injured YET fishing skies. I did take a bait off the chest when my dad lost a fish at boat side. Thanks for sharing, makes us all think saftey first!!

| yikes, a hook in the sack, the worst story I've ever heard.
I've told the story too many times, so I'll spare the details. But, at a remote lake in the UP, I once shared a Poes Jackpot with a upper 30"s fish and hooked my hand pretty deep, was able to cut off the fish, passed out in the boat on the way back to the landing hitting a tree while unconscience and was pitched halfway out of the boat, loaded the boat and drove myself to a hospital. The side cutters I had in the boat wouldn't cut the big hook, now I have mini-bolts held by velcro within easy reach. |
