Posts: 137 | Those are super slick baits. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that some of the lures on this site were made out of wood by an actual person. They look perfect in shape and with such pristine paint jobs that you would think that it had to be made by a big company with tons of high paid engineers and machines, lol. I also always get a kick, when I see a new addition to this old thread appear, because I can scroll through all the pages and see so many baits and new guys since the first time it popped up that I get a good sense of how many creative people are out there in our sport. (It also gives me a clear picture that there are a ton of muskie obsessed fishermen like me out there that are constantly trying to push the envelope just in an effort to catch one of these no account fish, frustrating, but beautiful fish.) This thread, and this forum too, are a true museum for us and the art form. Congrats to all the guys who made their own baits, be it jerkbaits, crankbaits, bucktails or what have you.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Jed, Those look fantastic! What are you going to name them? Those are very nice. I hope you make more than a few of those! Is it easy to replace the tail?

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Thanks James, have not decided on a name yet. I have made a grand total of 2, both of which are pictured above. The tails are secured in place with a couple drops of super glue and will not come off. These two are about 14 inches in length with the tail stretched and weigh 6.5 ounces. I intend to also make a smaller version soon. Jed V. Edited by RiverMan 12/5/2008 11:14 PM

Posts: 78 | Those are super baits!! Are the tails from mongomal (sp) grubs? How do you get the grub color to match the paint job? Do you paint the grub also?

why do you call them swimbaits? imo they look like glidebaits, and they look good

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Mota, I call them swimbaits because they don't glide or walk.........they sink with the nose slightly down and when you retrieve them the body remains vertical and very stable with just the tail swimming behind it.........just like many of the popular soft plastic swimbaits. If you really pull them hard they will veer up on to one side but quickly go back to a natural swimming position. I think they will best be fished with a stready retrieve, drop and retreive, or long pulls. I hope it will be a fish catcher. Jed V. Edited by RiverMan 12/8/2008 9:21 AM

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Thx Mota, I appreciate that. Gary, I am sorry I didn't answer your question earlier, I missed it somehow. I purchased the grubs in these colors already and painted the body to match the grub. Hope that makes sense. Jed V. Edited by RiverMan 12/9/2008 9:13 PM
