I think I may have gotten some bad information from the guy that put my new tires on my trailer. I have a Tuffy Esox Ltd. With motor, trailer, and boat, the package probably weighs 1300 pounds. The guy told me to put 32 pounds of air into my tires. I have been running them that way for about two years, and they always looked low.

The tires are Goodyear Marathon class C. Based on this table I got from the Goodyear site, I should be running my tires at 50 psi. Does this sound about right? What kind of pressure does everyone else have?

ST175/80R13 Class C

Seems like the older tires we ran years ago took 32 ppunds or so. It's not a boat trailer but i just pressured up my tires tonight on my suburban and it says right on the tore 50psi. Seems like alot but it's what they need.

The psi rating will be on the side of your tire. Usually in the small lettering, check for it.

If you don't run the tires at max you will loose load rating and have tire problems.

If your load isn't close to full weight rating you can reduce pressure though.

The thing I look at is if the centers of the tires are wearing quicker, there is too much pressure. You should get equal wear on the sides and middle of the tread face.

You're probably OK. The rating in the chart is for each tire. 2 tires on the trailer, at 50 would give you 2720 lbs.

I have the same type of tires, and can confirm the sidewalls indicate 50 lbs.

The sidewall states max PSI, not recommended PSI.

The ideal is to know your boat/trailer/load weight, and set at the recommended PSI by the chart.

All tires carry their maximum weight capacity at maximum recomended air pressure. Tires run the coolest (less possible heat damage) at maximum air pressure & suffer the least damage from impact (chuck holes, etc) when inflated to the max. You will always get the best possible service from your tires if you inflate them to the max pressure when cold. Its a no brainer. The only down side to max pressure is a slightly stiffer ride but not an issue on a boat trailer.

I have the same tires and always run what the sidewall says 50LBS!!! They will run cooler and most importantly the tread will wear even all the way across the tires same goes for the vehicle doing the towing. If they are under inflated the outside edges will wear out first and if the are over inflated the center will wear out first. And always switch your tires every other season they will last longer and wear better. hope this helps

Shep got it right....
If you are running maximum load weight then you need to run max pressure.
If you are running less than a maximum load on that tire you need to adjust air pressure accordingly.
I do like others mentioned and watch the way they wear. Wearing the center of the tread indicates overinflated. Wearing the outside edge indicated underinflated. They should wear evenly across the tread.

As for those that think you have to run the pressure at the listed max all the time... not true.

I have either the 175/13's or 185/13's Goodyear Marathons on my Tuffy Rampage's trailer.. They are close to ten years old and I have alway run about 45lbs I think in them.. No problems yet.. The tires are wearing evenly as they should. Hey Setme, was that you on the Barbee Chain over the weekend? I was out there on saturday fishing in a tan Rampage...

i've learned about tire pressure the hard (and expensive) way the last two years.
i run 175 80R13s as well.

i started out last year overinflated. way overinflated...first long trip = bulged both tires, one eventually blew.
dropped my tire pressure down to 35psi and things were right as rain the rest of the year.

i did some modifications to the boat this year that added weight in the back and made the tires "look" low.
running at 35psi this year was underinflated...first long trip = bulged a tire.

i'm going to plus them up to about 45psi and see how they run.

Nope Kevin, that wasn't me. I've never fished in Indiana.
