The fish supposedly bottomed out a 60lb scale. Of course, no way to verify anything but do you think it could have been a legitimate 60#?

If that fish was 60lbs, how long do you think it took this guy to get the grip to hold it vertically for the photo?

The angler is supposed to be 6'3", so that is a big fish. Also, he was fishing walleye so he may not be used to handling big muskies. As to sixty pounds, eh. But, it was probably feeding on spawning walleyes, so that could add weight.
Many years ago, a friend's uncle caught a musky that was just shy of 50# in the Hayward area. He took to a taxidermist and headed home to central WI. Shortly after getting home, the taxidermist called and said, 'you caught this on a big sucker?'. After that was confirmed, the guy said, 'well it had a walleye of almost 5# in its gut, that looks like he just ate it'. The taxidermist offered to mount the walleye for no extra charge, putting both on a piece of driftwood. Saw the mount and had the same question as the taxidermist, why would it eat a sucker with that in it's stomach? But, it added a lot of weight.

I have a replica of a 56 that was similar in girth over my fireplace, and I am absolutely certain the fish didn't go anywhere near 60#.
