I have been doing a lot of research and seen quite a few Youtube videos with the Chevy 2.7 liter 4 cyl. engine doing some serious towing up to 9000lb trailers through the Smokey Mountains, anyone have experience with this engine?
Darren

JMHO.. 310hp is an awful lot to ask from a four banger.. and when they give up, they do it in a rather spectacular fashion..

We swapped my F150 for a full size SUV this past fall. When shopping, it didn’t seem like many of them were set up to tow to there “up to” capacity. They all had receivers but few had the tow packages you’d need to get close to that maximum tow capacity. Salesmen were always quick to assure they would be fine for towing. We ended up with a wagoneer with the twin turbo inline 6 and max tow package. Not fuel efficient by any means but works for what we need.

Interesting observation. Maybe regional or brand differences? I have started looking at Tahoes and Yukons online, maybe a dozen so far and all have had the tow package option added, according to window stickers. All were from dealers north of Hwy 29.

My wife made the observation that most SUVs in our area are being driven by suburban housewives hauling their kids around so it could very well be a regional thing.

Something else to consider is the size of the boats we fish out of, when we all fished out of row boats we took our cars to the dealer and had a receiver installed and a place to plug in our tale lights for our trailer.
Electric vehicles are the way of the future but thee are some growing pains. Charging stations, how far you can drive between charges, depending on the age of your home having a charging station installed in your home. Not sure of the size of the gas tank on my parents old Mustang I remember my mom stopping at the gas station and the crew running out checking your tire pressure, your oil, cleaning the windows (just like in the movie "Back to the future") and asking for 3 dollars worth. Then seeing the adds on TV for F three 10 the new unleaded gas. Things are aways changing.

Looked at a lot of Silverado's 21-23 years this weekend about 10 between Milwaukee & Crystal Lake Ill. seen only two with the 5.3 L V8 with the interior options/ millage we want with the crew cab, everything else is the 2.7 liter 4 cyl. V8's are just not out there that much ?

Just checked the Silverados in that model year range at the Rhinelander GM, 12 in total, 7 had the 5.3 L V-8, 2 had the 3.0L Diesel, one the 6.6 Liter Diesel and the other two had the V-6. None had a 4 cylinder. All were four wheel drive and crew cabs. The larger diesel was a 2500.
Again, maybe a regional thing?

I would not discount the ones with the 3.0 L diesel, in particular if you drive long distances or tow. My brother in law bought a high end Silverado with that engine two years ago and it is impressive. He averages high 20s on the highway and said pulling his 24 foot tri-toon from north of LaCrosse to the Chippewa Flowage was easier than his old 5.3 V-8. Big, heavy boat on a bunk trailer, so it catches a lot of air.

i would look into the 3.0 babymax in a trim of your choice, or a a tahoe with it in there, they are impressive engines, met a guy at the ramp last year towing one with a 622, said he liked towing with it better than his 6.6 duramax because the mileage was better. as for jeeps, the suspenion of the grands will handle it just fine, but i know nothing of the motors. my wife had a 2016 with the 3.0 diesel in it (i like diesels) and that thing was hell for stout pulling.

I had a GMC with the 5.3L V8 last year when I got my boat. I have a 681 Ranger with 135 on the back, and I can say for me, that truck was junk when it came to pulling my boat around. Just no power to get up and go down the highway and gas mileage was terrible. Got rid of that and went to the Ford F150 with the 3.5 twin turbo motor. Night and day difference in pulling the boat. Maybe I got a "bad" 5.3 in that GMC, not sure, so just speaking from my experience.
