I've made a couple more for fishing for ling cod and big halibut up in Alaska. All 12", basswood, large acrylic lips, rattle chambers.

How do you fish these lures for halibut? Only fished for them one time and we used big jigs, with chunks of cut herring.

You cut a wide strip of pink belly and attach it to the front hook. Then you use 1-2 pounds of lead with about a 5' heavy leader. Let the lead touch bottom and reel it up three turns. If the boat is anchored you need enough current to get the lure to "work". With the size lips on these lures and the currents up in Alaska that generally isn't a problem. You'll get both action and rattle noise. If the boat is drifting there's enough movement to get both action and rattle noise. You fish large ling cod and large halibut the same way. These lures aren't meant for small fish.

Thanks. And yes when I fished in Icy Strait it was really interesting to see how the tide impacted the bait.
