Haven't done much fishing on opener. To those who fish big water with a cisco base early in the year, what are good bait choices? Is it just the standard stuff? Does rubber work (medussas, mag dawgs)?

There are two schools of thought, one is the three S's Small, shallow and slow. Or move out in deep water and throw large lures to suspended fish. Rubber and Cranks.

IMO, it depends a lot on where, when, and the conditions leading up to that point. If spawn is a couple weeks past, IMO you're good to throw anything. It's only when you are fishing a very late spring and/or relatively far north where you need to think about adjusting for the fact that fish just spawned or are in the process of spawning. In that case, you might lean more on slower moving jerky type lures - gliders, or minnow baits for example.
