We've had ice on ponds and small waterbodies this week and the overall weather looks cold for the month. Maybe an early ice-up in the North?

Had skim ice on part of the bay yesterday but today's sun took care of that. But cool nights will lower the water temps and should help with early ice.

I feel like early ice has become a yearly tease in November.

Trying to remember but seems like the spoiler has been right after lakes get skim ice, we get snow and that stops good ice from forming and really hampers the snowmobile trails from getting firm in southern Oneida.

We left Hayward on Monday and the ponds and small bays of lakes had skim ice and our rods guides were freezing up on Sunday morning along with eye on my level wind and we had 5 inches of snow at home in Colorado. In the 60's today here in the front Range.

Definitely no ice here and could hit 60 degrees this week. Looks warm through the end of the month too. Ice fishermen aren't going to be happy. Boo hoo

This morning for the first time, looks like the lake is iced from shore to shore. But, small lake, not much wind last night.

I think today is the last day of the nine day Wisconsin Deer Hunting season and in years when you had good ice guy's would go out in the evening with tip ups and catch Walleye's thru the ice. I think in 72 a guy got 42 pounder and won the Vilas County Musky Marathon.

The shallow 30 acre duck slough behind my house, was still open when I left town last Tuesday, and could see a dusting of snow on it when I returned Saturday evening, so it skimmed over sometime last week. The 250 acre lake I drive by on my way to work, was still open today.
