acquired a brand new pre blutooth 36V Ulterra the other day in a package deal.

everything works great, but when it is spot locked it will at random spin itself in a circle. It will do this in intervals until it has itself wrapped up and cant move then kicks off.

Is there a know cause / fix for this?

I have a blutooth with heading sensor 24V terrova and it spot locks like a rock. I dont mind the Ulterra hunting a bit in spot lock but the spinning is not good.

I have to watch my older Ulterra when spot locking as well. Left un touched mine will go in circles and tangle things.

My problem is made worse because i mounted my SI transducer on the Ulterra through a bracket i made. This means i can only complete about 2 full circles with the trolling motor before i am putting strain on the transducer cable.

Curious if other have the same issue.

Also has anyone else mounted an external transducer on an Ulterra? I would like to see how other have accomplished this.

That spring has since been replaced with a bungee. The general idea is keep tension on the transducer cable to hold it taunt while allowing some give with the bungee.

Also not trying to hijack this thread, I have the exact same issue as the OP. I just made it worse with added transducer cable. Sucks not being able to tie wrap the cable to the trolling motor shaft.

My 2016 Ultrex will occasionally spin 360 both ways, point straight backward, and shut off. Seems to be an issue with low winds. Keith's new Ultrex on the Renegade doesn't have that issue.

My terrova does this a fair bit, with any amount of chop exacerbating the issue. Ive just learned to keep an eye on it, but its not ideal.

interesting as my terrova on other boat can spot lock in pretty big wind and is rock solid.

i bought the bluetooth upgrade kit for the ulterra so hopefully the new head unit and sensor will calm this baby down. ive been kinda liking the auto stow / deploy feature from the back of a big tiller.

in some response from minnkota they also mention to make sure to calibrate your unit to your boat size, as in spot lock it can be over or under aggressive causing issues.
