Location: Rochester, New York | I know some people use beads for Rod Guide Protection to stop people from reeling up all the way and the beads I was using for my one rod ended up causing the damage instead so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for beads that wouldn’t damage the guide or an alternative that is just as easy |

Location: Delavan, WI | I believe they make a softer bead from some type of sturdy styrofoam or a rubber of some sort, rather than a hard plastic, was damage done to the eyelet or wear to the line causing a break off |

The eyelet is now cracked and starting to fray it though not a complete cheese shredder like my other rod. I do know with getting new rods I would like to have some simple sliding bead or some other simple thing to protect the rod guide completely to prevent damage |

| put a bobber stop on the line above the leader, you can feel this tick as it goes through as a reminder to not mash the leader into the tip top |

Good idea usually i tie directly to a swivel on a pretied steel leader will use the bobber stop
In addition to a bobber stop is their anything else i could use as an emergency stopper like the bead would |

| I use a glow bead at night but during the day it's no problem. As a teenager in the 70's I had a hard lessen. We used #27 to #30 Dacron and if you reeled your leader too far up and your leader was in the eye of rod and when you cast it would let go and your line would break. I used Mepps Musky Killers and one time broke down a bought a Slim Jim put it on the line and made one cast and casted it off. It seemed to take forever to land. My dad turned to me and said "was that your new lure"?
YUP! That was the only Slim Jim I ever owned. |
