Currently live in north central wisconsin.  Wife would like to move to milwaukee area in a few years to be closer to grandkids.  Are there any good musky lakes?  I know of pewaukee, okauchee.  Are they worth living on or not?  Just trying to get a feel for where to be looking. thx

Within an hours drive from Milwaukee there are lots of lakes that have musky. The question becomes what kind of crowds and boat traffic are you willing to deal with? Weekdays are much better of course.

Could do random lake if you are okay with being a 30 minute drive north.

Pewaukee is a nice little town I was there for the Muskie INC fall board meeting 21 years ago and fished Random and Elkhart lakes up by little town of Plymouth this is east of Sheboygan.

Man i would never leave northern WI to move to the Madison/Milwaukee area! I guess unless you prefer extremely crowded and over pressured water full of milfoil, with real estate costing 3-10x as much as up north? I live near Madison currently and despise it. If this move is purely for fishing, I’d say it’s a poor one. However if it’s to be close to family or something, that’s different.

My son lives in South Milwaukee and from what I have seen in that area, I would sell my muskie stuff, learn to fish for salmon, brown trout on the big lake and even the streams. Watched guys catching salmon and steel head on a small river near his house, looked like fun. In the Milwaukee harbor area, they catch huge brown trout.
The rivers in the Milwaukee area are coming back and the fishing can be great. I would spend a few bucks, hire a guide for both the rivers and the lake. One of my nephews has had great success with big musky on Green Bay but has started doing some trolling for salmon. He said the great thing about catching a big salmon is you get a good fight and then you get some fine eating.
(I believe most release the big brown trout)

I'm a fib and have done what No8 is talking about. My Musky boat can also be used for salmon. It's a nice alternative when it's too hot, out of the Musky season or it's a closer.better alternative for the day. Best time is early and your often off the water by late morning early afternoon. Friends,. family and co-workers will be very happy if you shared your catch. If you like hunting open water you will like this.
