Thanks, this is interesting. When I was still living in the U.P. a guy caught a huge brook trout through the ice on a little pot hole lake between Baraga and Marquette. Something like 8 or 9 pounds. Just unheard of. Finally, the mystery was solved when the folks from the DNR heard about it and said that they had put the fish there, it had been at the hatchery in Marquette and for some reason it was no longer being used for its eggs, so they released it when they did some stocking at the lake. Apparently, that was SOP, perhaps for genetic diversity?
