I want to check out the St Croix downsizer rods at the Chicago Muskie Show. Should I call them and make sure they bring a couple? Does anyone have a contact email or number of who I could call?

Thanks for the idea Steve.

Anybody have any experience with the St Croix downsizers?

I've built, and fished all of the downsizer lengths. They are very nice, light weight rods, but not for everyone. The blanks are a little smaller in diameter, with a pretty fast/light tip section, and if you are not mindful of that, you'll probably break it. They're not really for people that are hard on, or abuse their equipment. I've caught quite a few 45"-48" fish on these rods, and they handled them great. Downsizers are a nice addition to a rod selection, and I always have at least one in the boat. My go to for last season is one that I made 8'8". PM me if you have any questions about them.

I talked to the guys from St. Croix at the Chicago show and handled the 3 downsizer rods. As we talked and I saw the power/flex of the 3 rods, it became apparent that the 7'10"' medium power/fast action would be the best all-around rod for me when throwing smaller cranks, bucktails, and jerk baits. I went over and bought one from Thorne Bros and I also got a 300 Tranx 300 7.6:1 to pair with it. Should be lots a fun to fish with.
