Posts: 3472 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, One more day with the bow on Friday before the Wisconsin pumpkin parade starts. Would be nice to put one more in the freezer, but a MN doe down earlier in the year we are alright. Seen a lot of deer, but no shooters close...yet. Fingers crossed to tag out on the last day for me in Wisconsin... Steve

Posts: 347 Location: Vilas County, WI | Gotta take advantage of this opportunity in Northern WI. Off all next week - hope to hunt the first half; and fish the latter half. A Thanksgiving Musky perhaps!

Posts: 20180 Location: oswego, il | I have not hunted since I was a teen. All the family farms and places to hunt vanished. I grew up hunting more than I fished. This Saturday I will pheasant hunt for the first time in 40 years. Edited by ToddM 11/19/2020 3:19 PM

Won't be going this year, unless it is for a couple days at the end of rifle season. But, hope all who do have a good time, whether that means the time in the woods or a chance to be with family. I was fortunate to spend many years at deer camp with family. Most are gone now, but I still have the memories. Those are worth far more than the deer I harvested.

Posts: 3472 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Todd, How'd you fare in the pheasant fields? I had bad news on this end... all my archery stuff was stolen right out of my truck...in my driveway a week ago Wed/Thursday. Didn't get to hunt Friday, except for values of things I lost and get it reported to police and insurance... Was not a good couple of days for me and I continue to kick myself for leaving it out there when I usually bring it in. Steve

Posts: 20180 Location: oswego, il | Steve that really sucks. It turns out for me, I need a hunter's safety course to get a license in Colorado. I took one 40+ years ago in fibland but I doubt there is a record. Sucks because I can shoot doves, pheasant and geese, snows and Canadians right from my son's property. I did some target practice with my son's 9mm and shot some trap and schooled my kids a little. Edited by ToddM 11/28/2020 12:28 AM

Posts: 56 Location: Illinois | Hey Todd, I can look mine up taken in 1990. If Colorado recognizes Il, try and look it up. https://www2.illinois.gov/dnr/safety/Pages/Look-Up-Your-Safety-Certi... Edited by jheminva 11/28/2020 4:46 PM

Looks like a lot of states and provinces going that way now to ensure hunter recruitment: This is from https://cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/HunterEducation.aspx "NOTICE: CPW Director Prenzlow grants a temporary exemption to allow hunter education to be delivered online from November 15th, 2020 - February 15th, 2021. CPW has determined this exemption is necessary due to public health directives and protection of public health, safety and welfare. This exemption may be extended, subject to review prior to the expiration date listed. Any student who is at least 11 years old, and finishes this 100% online course(Hunter-Ed.com/Colorado) by February 15th will be fully Hunter Ed certified for life, and no in person class will be required. Official Colorado Hunter Education cards will be mailed to graduates automatically after course completion."

Posts: 309 Location: Selkirk, Manitoba | Although ice fishing already in full swing here, with warm weather, little snow, sharptail and hun numbers up, and two labs raring to go, pretty much mandatory to get out in the pastures near here. I find that sharptail hunting is very similar to musky hunting - long stretches of checking likely looking habitat and having to be on guard, but generally little action and often none at all. At least with some snow on the ground and a bird dog you get to see some sign and know you have a chance. When action does come there is that adrenaline rush from a clucking bird taking off - very similar to the rush of seeing a muskie follow. Mistakes are made and opportunities squandered - more so when hunting solo - take three shots at the first bird and then 10 more get up, or you are on one side of a bush and one or two flushes on the other side and soon out of range. It's not easy, and again in that way I find very similar to musky hunting. I know black bears often get up during the winter when it gets a bit warm, but sure seems late to see tracks like these this morning. Don't ever recall it actually. Plenty of berries around but still really odd. Of all the COVID related big game affected by lack of US hunters up here, black bears are the biggest beneficiary I am guessing. Sharptail tracks, the wee ones are my lab on the scent trail. Edited by Angling Oracle 12/6/2020 1:36 PM Attachments ---------------- IMG_20201206_0818439-2.jpg (148KB - 338 downloads)
