Hey guys, What would be some of your must baits to have on the Big V?  Its been a decade since I have fished there and was lookin for some confidence baits and colors.  Fishing August 8-15th out of the Fortune Bay Casino...Hoping water temps are lower by then.  Also, my Dad and I like to fish for smallmouth Bass, any tips there would be much appreciated.   Thanks, Tight lines.....

I like to use 7.5" or 10" phantom softails and magnum to pounder bulldawgs in either black/orange or cisco patterns. 8" depth raiders in perch or cisco work well too. If you want to throw some bucktails then the old standby of cowgirls and showgirls in the same colors above work, but I have noticed a decline in the number of fish I see in MN on these types of baits.

What's more important is to use baits that you have confidence in.

Don't know a whole lot about the smallmouth fishing on Vermilion, but I would assume they would be in their usual haunts.

Thank you for your thoughts Rob....I agree, confidence is key. I just hope it won’t be as crowded as I hear it’s been up there lately. I am thinking about getting a guide 4 a day, do you or anyone out there have a guide you would recommend??

Matt Seifert and Luke Ronnestrand if they aren't booked for the summer already. Search the forum, there's other suggestions out there too.

Nothing will help your confidence more than getting in a boat with Luke! Apologies to Matt as I've never met him or fished with him. Heard he is great, too!

I've had my best luck on the natural colored Suick up there. The fish in my profile pic is a Vermilion 49" that my dad cut the tail off of in the pic. It was caught on a 9" wooden weighted Suick. Couple fish on a sucker-colored bucktail too.
