The upper reaches near Grand Rapids hold some. Not sure about the size of the population though.

Location: Chisholm, MN
They stock them in the Brainerd area. Other than that they are lower natural populations elsewhere in the state.

FYI, the river is very low right now. I was out on Saturday and watched a guy destroy a 25 hp Mercury motor. He came flying up toward me full speed and hit a rock. took the lower unit right off above where the prop is. If you go on the river, be careful.

Like mentioned I believe the Sartell North to Brainerd area will be the best stretch. I have heard the Royalton area but I'm not sure.

All sections of the river between St. Cloud Dam and Brainerd Dam have self-sustaining, fishable populations of muskies. They stock the river above Brainerd and in the Aitkin area so they should be present up to Grand Rapids.

15-20 years ago I fished for them a few times above the Blandin Paper dam in Grand Rapids. Saw a few, my son saw one giant, never got bit. Legend has it that some people that used to work at the paper mill would look down from their higher spots at the factory and spot a 6 footer that would swim by once in awhile. I think maybe they were the same ones that claimed to see Bigfoot eating a Lalapalooza sundae in the Bridgeman's parking lot one night also............
