Like many others, I've had to cancel my LOTW trip and am now going to Vermilion instead. I haven't fished it in the summer pretty much ever, so I'm curious how you guys like to break it down.

I'll be on the West end at Pehrson's Resort in late August. Usually at LOTW I'm running and gunning rock points with bucktails, slowing down with gliders/cranks if conditions call for it. Wondering if this same kind of strategy is applicable in Vermilion. Thinking I'll need to maybe slide deeper than I would on LOTW too, as that seems to be a better pattern in a lot of places I fish in MN.

Hoping to still get in contact with some fish, and maybe find a few crappies while I'm there too.

my strategy would depend a lot on the weather you are dealt.. unless there was wind and cloud cover..Weather that keeps boat traffic to a min. ..I'd be off the lake by 9 am and not back on till 6 pm...with fresh batteries in my headlamps...but that's just me

Crappies are a lot of fun and there's some big ones that time of year mixed with really nice bluegills. 6 to 11' on the cabbage edges in the bays with 1/16 ounce jigs and a cork. Favorite tail is Muddy Water 2" in several blue/pearl and other colors and pearl Berkley GULP Alive Minnow Grubs. Really like Kenders Outdoors large hook series 3mm jigs, Kenders hair/marabou jig in white or pink/white glow, and Violent strike crappie jigs. Keith Worrall owns Violent Strike and can be found on Facebook. Ask him for a crappie kit.

Thanks for the tip on the crappies! Good to know they should be an option. I've got a good set of plastics and jigs built up, they just rarely see the light of day after walleye opener and especially so after musky. Always gone musky 1st with walleye for eaters, but I don't want to be focused on walleye in prime time up there which may be necessary if I wanted to get into them. Hoping crappies could provide a good option in the fringe times like mid-morning or before I want to start an evening musky run.

I've never really fished crappie outside of winter and spring, so this will be a good opportunity to expand my experience there.

If you are fishing at night....bring the Mosquito Repellent. The good stuff!
And...if you are targeting muskies...bring booze!

Any time during the day is no problem. Trust me, get the GULP at least.
