| Love suicks more and more I now have only wood ones
I bought a plastic hi impact suivk once and didn't like it traded it away,,but I'm wondering if that was just a bad one and wondering if I should give another one a try.
For you hardcore suick throwers now do you like the plastic compare to the wood |

| Give them another shot. I didn't think I would like the plastic ones, but I love them. Very easy to tune and I can make them very erratic. Caught a pile of big fish on them.
Suicks are my favorite baits to throw.
This Hi-Impact 9" has 55 Musky on it so far.

| Want to trade that one Jeff??? I’m a big suick guy,always have been.My favs are still a few old weighted wood 10s but they are touchy and more variable than the new high impacts.Have grown to luv the new ones but with a few have added a bell sinker to the front hook hanger and got some neat action. |

Location: Elroy, Wisconsin | You want any jerk bait or (manually imparted action lures) to dance side to side dives and a slight rolling action on the upward move. Get one to do this and you will catch muskies. The reason weight is often added is to approach neutral buoyancy. We used to soak old beat up wooden ones in water overnight to achieve this Walk the dog under water and get a roll or wiggle on the rise and you have the best fish catcher I know of.

Location: Minnesota. | The HI Suicks are excellent! They are easier to pitch in the wind, easy to adjust and last and last and last....plus they're really durable. I have a bunch of both woodies and the HI's and typically fish the HI more!
I gave up on Suicks in the early '80's....b/c I thought they were a stupid bait. No action etc. etc. Then I tried a few back around 5 yrs ago. After a 54" er slammed me on an HI Wild Sucker I was sunk!

Steve, regarding the tail manipulation, what do you do to the HI models that you wouldn't need to do to the standard wood ones?

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It's not necessarily anything different, I tune every Suick I own to dance the best I can get it to. I've found the HI model to be really responsive to tail bends, but usually end up modifying most of the tail to get 'em to really tango with the Muskie. |

Location: north central wisconsin | I have purchased/traded a few dozen wooden suicks over the years, with only a couple that have made the cut as 'catchers' for me. When the HI hit the scene I didn't feel I 'needed' one. I won a firetiger HI 9" at one of our club banquets a couple years ago, and was immediately impressed with the action, hang, and tuneability of the lure. And while using them sparingly the past few days in Vilas, a few of my bites came on HI Suicks, so we grabbed a couple more at Rollie and Helens on the way home. |

Location: Royalton, MN | What are opinions on hanging bell sinkers on the hook eyelets to get the bait deeper or make it suspend? Any tips or tricks?
I sometimes hang a 1/2oz bell sinker to the front hook eyelets using a small clip. Gets the bait down a couple more feet and slows the rise, but seems to deaden the action a little. It also adds noise as the sinker swings up and hits the underside of the lure. |

Location: SW Ohio | I picked up a set of 9 wooden NOS suicks off a local forum. Playing with them in the pool I found one that appeared to have better action and retrieved deeper (2-3'). It is weighted behind the front hook.
I'm curious what others have done to weight their lures. As these are wooden, I know I can drill and add weight but i don't want to destroy any in the process.
Having worked in the motorcycle industry for years I've acquired a small collection of stick-on wheel weights (down to 1/4 oz). Is there any downside to using stick-on weights on these lures (other than they may come off eventually)? |
