Can you guys give me some advice on the easiest way to do scales foil on a hard resin muskie jig??
I have some super thin leaf foil. Is that a good choice or should I just use foil duct tape? And what are my steps????
Thanks so much.
Landry

Can you show us a picture of your jigs. With foil the size and curvature of the lure/jig often dictates how you handle the foiling procedure.

i've seen foil rolled by a ratchet handle that was put on small baits and looked good.

Those jigs have a good shape for foil. There are a number of approaches including (1) purchase holographic foil with a scale pattern, cut to size, epoxy to lure, (2) use aluminum foil and impress a scale pattern with a rachet handle, wire mesh, or even netting, cut to size, epoxy on, or (3) use "non-standard" foil such as wrapping paper, candy wrappers, etc, cut to size, epoxy on lure body. There's a lot of ways to skin a cat.

Hey Landry,
There are a ton of ways to do foil, I think there was a thread on it not too long ago. The easiest/fastest way in my opinion would be to use the HVAC foil tape and either glue scale netting directly to the bait and apply foil over it or roll some texture onto the foil before applying foil to the bait. If you put the HVAC tape on something like a silicone baking mat or thin foam etc., you can use a rolling pin to imprint a texture onto the foil. Then just stick the foil on the bait & trim, smoothing out the edges with a burnishing tool (smooth hard rod of any sort really, a pen works in a pinch). You can also use the burnisher to remove the texture from any areas where you might not want it like the gill plates or belly. Another quick way to put texture on HVAC foil is by using threaded rod, rolling the rod across flat foil on a diagonal and then rolling the rod the opposite direction to make a diamond pattern.
Have fun!
