Justin Trudeau,PM Canada just announced that the Border will be closed for "some time." Musky opener June 20th. What does "some time" mean. I have heard rumors of travel restrictions lasting two years. At 75 I don't have that much time left.
Any hard info available?

I think it's all going to depend on cases dropping in the usa. If things settle down, it'll open. I really hope so

Fisher, for the the sake of the 1000's of good folks in Canada that own/run fishing camps that rely on US dollars keeping them afloat, I hope you are correct...I'm not confident that will be the case.. hopefully at least by July 1st?, only time will tell what the "new" normal will be.

The governor of Mn. may have something specific to say about resorts and fishing in Mn during his news conference today. I talked to Steve at Spring Bay the other day and he is planning for the season opener and beyond. They will be doing some additional things for the safety of guests and staff

We have a place in NW Ontario and not allowed crossing to open the cabins. Anecdotal thought here but the small communities in NW Ontario specifically are pretty isolated in the winter months which may have slowed the spread. Could cause lag compared to the US so may keep things locked down for a while at least regionally. Kind of double edged for those communities as closure could keep the cases down but also keeps the tourism dollars from flowing. Time will tell

Something similar in SE Alaska. Supposed to go up the end of June to help my brother in law with set net sockeye fishing on a river off Bristol Bay. Biggest sockeye fishery in the world. However, the native group and the town of Dillingham have asked the state to cancel the fishery. Dillingham claims it will bring in over a thousand outsiders, starting in May to the processing plants and related facilities. And that does not count the fishing boats and tenders. We would be staying in an isolated cabin but the big canneries have large dorms. Fishing does not start until late June but they come in well ahead of time to get the processing plants ready.

I have been starting to question their models, predictions, etc.? Nothing has come close and for this big spike or later spike or what ever they keep trying to say, isn't happening. Just my thoughts, the fear I had in the first weeks is gone. But who knows?? Sounds like it may have been spreading for a lot longer than they thought, which makes sense.
Hope to get cabin at the Angle by road, but an willing to run across if needed.

We only have 250 cases in Manitoba and are being told repeatedly not to go to our cabins in Ontario. Alot would have have to change in the next two months. I dont believe our government officials are as eager to get the border open as trump is.

Wear a mask, stop the spread. some of the homemade ones are excellent if worn over the nose and mouth securly. Ends the spread and the shutdown.

I wouldn't go out on a limb and say that any of them actually care about human life. We know they do not. That said, they've all got their tits in a wringer over this thing, and how they handle it will determine if they have a job going forward. In this case, CYA and saving lives are one in the same.

There's enough BS going on in the media, politics... let's not add to it and turn on each other!

Hard to figure out the right balance with this situation. But let's not make more drama and emotion, especially between muskie fisherman and the great countries and citizens of Canada and the US.

I recommend a knock it off and let's focus on the positive and muskie fishing!

Cool?

I have four fishing trips to Canada planned in 2020. Maybe none of them will happen because of a closed border. I spoke to my mom tonight and asked her to tell me again about living through the great depression and the rationing during WW II. My dad passed away in 2018. He also lived through the depression and he fought in the battle of the buldge, 90,000 casualties on each side in one battle. He told me lots of stories too. That generation had hardships and made sacrifices that I have a hard time wrapping my head around. Today many people in the world are going through extreme hardship due to covid or from something else. So in persective, for me, missing fishing trips to canada in 2020 due to a closed border is no big deal.

There is a chance the Canadian Border will not be open by the end of June and even if it is there is a very good chance we will cancel the June trip. Our June trip is a couples trip trip. The thought of traveling 550 miles, overnight lodging at the 1/2 way point, dining out, buying foodstuffs in Dryden and than putting 4 retired couples in a little cabin doesn't sound very responsible given the information at hand. We will make the final decision on the June trip a few weeks from now as more information is available. Looks like the fall 'mens' trip might be a go.

Here's the kicker!

https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-trudeaus-cottage-vi...

Take Lilley's editorials with a grain of salt. He is a staunch Liberal basher and has a fair bit of vitriol in his articles.
I am apolitical but Lilley is kinda like a FOX journalist. Just grab headlines whether true or not.

2 years is likely just somebodies (educated??) guess. However here in NYS we've had > 15K dead as of yesterday. Covid-19 is now the leading cause of death in NYS so temporarily closing all borders is smart. The opening of our border with Canada will be determined by the length of the Covid-19 pandemic. We're not even sure if the state is going to open up state launches and public marina's. Lot of pressure here locally about that so if social distancing is maintained perhaps at least we can fish this summer. Already blown off the pike-walleye opener.
Really whats more important fishing or death? In my 60's so I
l'll wait it out as needed.

Well put my dad and father in law went thru all ww2 depression. Figure we lost nearly 1/2 million dead, the rationing at home, family's with 6 to 8 kids in 2 bedroom accommodations we will rise to the occasion. I served in the 82nd airborne an elite combat division and was deployed so if we can just stand the boredom foe a few months will likely make it to the other side. Stay safe everyone.

"Apolitical," yet you post this? None of the other "journalists" from the other "networks" spin their stories to what fits their agenda. Ever.
