I have a 50hp 4stroke Mariner. A couple of weeks ago when under full power it made a metallic crackling sound and it almost felt like I had hit something- but had not. Same thing happened one mor time that day. I have since avoided high rpms but yesterday I could hear a popping sound intermittently.

Any thoughts on what may be going on?

Possibly cylinder or valve problems, at best lower unit issues... don't run it

Took it in the morning. Big chunks of metal in the lower unit oil.
