Wondering what the farthest west lakes are in the southern wisconsin area are. The area that opens earlier than the northern region.

Thanks for any help fellas!

You can go the WDNR website and download the musky lakes list by county. They also designate the musky lake classification, access and size.

Yellowstone is west, redstone farther north, there is a lake stocked around lacrosse too. There are others south of rt10 best to look at the musky lake by county pdf.

Lake Neshonoc is the one in LaCrosse County and would be furthest west. Don't know much about it though.
If you have a small boat or canoe, the Black River might be a possibility. Lake Arbutus (a Black River flowage) holds muskies, no idea as to density though--last stocked in 1992 but the Black River is a natural population anyway. The Black River itself is known for action, guys generally float it in a canoe.

Neshonoc is a few miles away from me. I fish it on tournament nights. I have encountered a couple of fish and some guys have caught some. I still put the miles on to fish other locations, but for a quick little evening, there is a chance.
