Hey I have always heard about decent muskie fishing in the Barbie lakes area and have wondered how it is. I have a friend who I need to visit and he lives like 4 hrs away from there. How is the fall fishing? Any big fish or are they on the smaller side? Are there any other lakes around there that are good. Any info is appreciated.

The Barbee chain, The Tippecanoe chain and Webster lake are within minutes of each other in Kosciusko county IN. I’ve personally caught fish in the low 50’s and heard of / seen photos of fish in the 53” range on these lakes. Worth a day on the water. Tippy has monster pike as well as Muskies. You might want to contact Chae Dolsen of Webster Lake Guide service for intel. Even if you don’t book a trip he can point you in the right direction.

All shad based lakes, find bait & you’ll locate fish. Black is good, also had good success with bright/perch colors. Early fall I’d focus on shallower water with blades. I don’t usually see as many fish on Barbee, but they tend to be bigger.

I usually see more fish on Webster, but I also fish it the most and have more confidence I’ll contact fish. I’ve had several days on Barbee without even seeing a fish, that rarely happens on Webster. Biggest fish I’ve ever seen in the water was on Barbee though, so I still go back. It’s also made up of smaller lakes so you can fish a little easier if it’s crazy windy.

People seem to love or hate Tippy. I believe it has the biggest fish of all of the lakes mentioned. It is the muskie biggest lake of all those in the area at 1100 or so acres. It is has some flats, but also some steep breaks leading down to 100' plus depths. That seems to turn some people off, but the fish sure don't mind. It has a couple of connected lakes, James and Oswego, which both hold fish. Personally I think it has a higher fish population than Barbee, but fewer than Webster (at least lately). I like Tippy.

Unless they cut stocking barbee recieves the same stocking density that webster does and tippy chain just under half that. At least that is the way it was. With tippy you have the added bonus of a possible big pike. Don't let the depths get to you as a rule shad stay high in the water column, you can fish shallow over deep water.

I love tippy. Being in 50-60 feet of water and casting to the bank is awesome. Webster can be a little congested sometimes, tippy is bigger so there are more options. And catching pike is pretty cool too.

I think the stocking rates have stayed the same. Tippy gets way fewer than half of what the other lakes receive. Being interconnected, I feel there must be some downstream movement of fish from both Webster and the chain though. I just see too many fish on Tippy to believe fish stocked elsewhere aren't making it there. Just my opinion...

The reason tippy and the barbee chain are stocked is because they had fish in them that migrated from webster. I heard of a 53 caught in barbee before it was stocked an obvious webster fish. What i do find odd is how difficult babree can be despite the fish stocked when in its heyday seeing and catching fish was easy. There are some big fish in there though. I have a 10 fish day in 6hrs from there back in 2002 and many multiple fish days and no skunks back then.

I need help on Barbee. I’ve fished Kuhn quite a bit last season and have moved fish but had no luck. I have not fished the other lakes near as much. Which lake would you fish if you had to pick one on the Chain? Big Barbee was kind of tough for me and I didn’t spend much time at all on the other lakes. I’d like to concentrate on another lake besides Kuhn and it’s a long drive, any guidance is appreciated. Loon has kicked my ass too. Big fish there.

I am not a pro on the chain, but here is what I have found. My favorite lake for catching fish consistently is little barbee. The biggest fish we have caught come from Big Barbee. If for some reason I just want to move a lot of fish, the most follows come from Kuhn. On all of the lakes I typically am casting to the breaks, and weed edge.

I have caught fish on every lake on that chain except banning, spent very little time there, hooked one. Little barbee and sawmill have the dirtiest water probably making the fish easier to catch. Sechrist and kuhn are not influenced by grassy creek and very clear. Current can be a factor on the chain, pay attention to that. Fish all the points and humps on all the lakes and you are on good spots.

Barbee is always feast or famine for me. Either fish are everywhere or they’re nowhere to be found. I have very few “slow “ days-all or none. Seems very feeding window influenced, I’ll often have all the day’s action in a short time frame.

I know this is an old post but does anyone know what the water temps are on these lakes? Can't find anything posted online. I heard they were very warm but that was last month. Thanks
