So, i intend to use 150lb 7 strand wire for my leaders.

Since i hate crimps, i would like to use fivure 8 knots, something that has worked very well for me so far

Does 7 strand wire hold up as well as 49 strand wire when you make a knot?

My experience is that the 7 strand gets kinked way way faster than the 49 strand.

Beside that i have the best result regarding high breaking loads, with crimps rather than knots

Here's what I do with 130lb 7-strand. Never had one break and since they are so cheap to make I just change them out if kinked.

Interesting technique for tying that 7 strand wire.

But, crimping still seems so much quicker and simpler then tying.

figure 8 knot, take it with a grain of salt cause i actually just tried it yesterday but it seems strong and it is very easy to tie

Hi,Folks !!!

I've found these videos :

just a suggestion and nothing else ( you just have to adapt that method to the wire diameter you usually use to make your wire leaders )

If you really dont want to crimp, a figure eight should be fine. Another knot (can't recall name) to consider is tied as follows:

Double the wire to form a loop and pass that through the eye of the swivel/ring/snap.

Pass the doubled wire through the loop and tighten around eye of swivel/ring/snap forming a half hitch on the swivel/ring/snap.

Tie an overhand knot in the main line, both the main line and the tag end of the loop should be tied into the overhand knot.

Tighten and trim.

I would post pictures, but I have no seven strand to demonstrate with. I learned about this knot from the interweb. Let me do some research to see if I can find a link...
