This may seem a bit to be a bit outlandish but sometimes thinking outside the the proverbial box works, so here goes:

Has anyone used a door hinge or something similar as a crank bait diving lip?  Is there a shape that could  be used after a bit of modification?  Suspect some or any replies could be really interesting.

If the hinge is horizontal then it it would cause the bait to go up and down like the river2sea crawfish. The line tie would need to be on the end and the lip straighf out. I am sure the body of the bait would have to compliment the lip in a way to create that movement.
