| The big dawg, does throw pounders, but there are more suited rods for them out there.
I prefer Musky innovations Mark Lejewski 4x heavy for them(not sure it's available any more), if shipping wasn't priced the way it is, i would buy a Predator XXH 9½ foot. |

| St Croix has new Legends coming out. 3-10 fters in MH, H, XH. Along with all there of models of the Legends. Everything is basically the same just different colors. |

Same here...but the thing creaks more than a little while throwing a pounder. Makes me a bit nervous! |

| I’m a big fan of the LT rods but I don’t think they are necessary for chucking pounders. St Croix makes a 9 foot premier PM90XHF2 that is excellent for pounders. The cork handle is 2” longer than on the LT’s and it’s bulkier build doesn’t creek like the big dawg does. I feel it performs better with the ultra heavy baits and it has the LT palming grip to boot. It’s quickly becoming my favorite rod this fall. Try to check one out if you can. |

Location: St Paul, Minnesota | In my honest opinion the best "big rubber" St. Croix rod presently in production isn't the LT Big Dawg, it's the 9ft premier PM90XHF2. Yes the rod is heavy and a 2 piece, but in terms of proper length and bend when throwing pounders I think it's better equipped than the Big Dawg.
Now with all that being said I'm going put it out there that Thorne Bros. Predator (XH and XXH) Rods are St. Croix blanks just with a different bend. So if you want the best "St. Croix" rod available, the Predator Rods get my vote.

| But will the pm90xhf2 be a nice rod to cast all day when being heavy? You think it's the better choice then the big dawg? I don't care for the cost difference. I just want the best st. Croix pounder rod there is. |

Location: mercer wi | Your worried about the rod wearing you out when throwing pounders all day? Just kidding!!! I like all the 8.5'+ xh stcroixs. Legend, premier, and mojo. They all have 16" rear grips. The sc2 blanks (premier, mojo) are little slower then the legends sc4. I'm looking at buying the new 9' xh premier that's will be out after season. Longer rear and the ones I got to play with had the foam rear grip and were like 2.5" diameter. Easy on ribs.
My only tip is to let out foot or so between leader and rod tip and lob cast. |

| The premiers cork handle is 2” longer than the cork handle on my big dawg. I own both rods and choose the premier over the big dawg every time for large plastics. Heck my big dawg has become my large jerkbait rod now. If your choosing between the two strictly for pounders i would suggest the premier. I honestly wish i would of bought the premier first. The longer length of the premier actually makes the pounders easier to lob out there all day. From what Dave’s saying I would wait for the new rod if you don’t need it immediately. But if you want it now........... JMHO |

Location: new richmond, wi. & isle, mn | It's all a personal preference. Personally I cast left handed with a right handed reel. Old school, I know. My left hand on the foregrip is my power. I don't care for the split grips, and I don't like the extra butt length getting hung up on my clothing. Make sure you get a rod that suits yourself............ The tip with letting out extra line and letting the rod do the work is universal.

| If money ain't a option predator 9'8" xxh.... St. Croix blank and you can customize it.... I have a xh and a xxh, big dawg, big Nasty and 9" legend elite. If I was only chuckin ponders the predator xxh. Would get the nod. |

| Very nice rods, I use my 9' quite often. If you are looking for a dedicated pounder rod this certainly would not be the best choice. |

St.Croix builds them to Thorn Bros specifications. It just won't have the St.Croix name on it. |
