I've been using my Tranx for a couple months now and I like it but the one issue I've had with the power handle is it engaging the spool during the cast if it's in a certain position when I cast. I figured out that if it's straight up that it will move enough to engage the spool. I haven't lost any lures yet but it sure wakes me up and I can't imagine it's good for the reels gears? Anyone else have this issue?

When casting hold the bar down then it can't engage

It can happen with non balanced power handles. If you position the handle down or straight back it won't happen. Tilting the whole reel so the handle is on top will make sure it doesn't engage either.

You can do those things. The only bummer is I thought they made the engagement stiff enough and handle light enough on those reels that that wouldn't be a problem.

I have a 300ahg and 301ahg. I have not had this happen as you described yet. I have bumped the handle once and not fully depressed the thumbar a couple times, but no violent stops or lost lures.

Have not had an issue with either of mine. They are like the 500 and snap into gear very solidly.

If the reel handle is from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock position this can happen on any reel. This has happened on this reel but it was my own fault. The suggestions above a all fixes.

Don't cast so hard. Let rod n reel do the work. Shimano put like a extra stopper to stop damage to gears. Awesome reels imo

Might want to dissemble and oil your disengage bar and see if that helps. If there is any grit in there that might be what's inhibiting it from opening/closing fully and locking your handle in place.
