I am the fishing expert at field and stream in asheville and mostly an avid fly fisherman. I decided to scout out muskie here in western north carolina on conventional gear. I used my 6 foot custom made stripper rod that i got when i was 13 ,medium action , and my 2001 model quantum catalyst spin real. 30 lb braid and 40 pound mono as leader. I began the day using wire but the water was far to clear for it. I started my second run and switched to straight mono and before you know it, bang! Luckily another canoeist was behind me and helped pushed me to shore and snapped this pic.'
