| I'm new to musky fishing and was wondering if anyone knows of any decent shore fishing for muskies in western new york. I'm presently going to use a cabela's 2-pc muskie spinning rod [3/4-3oz lures and 15-30lb line] with a stradic 5000fk reel with 30lb braid. how does that sound? Dave P |

| Dave, I can't speak on any good destinations up your way but I know that your set up (while on the light side of the musky spectrum) will get the job done. Id suggest at least 65 lb braid and using a fluorocarbon leader, some use wire leaders, but its all a matter of personal preference. If you do catch the musky bug and stick with it I would definitely suggest upsizing your tackle in the future. But for now you should be fine.
For the record - beware that once you are bitten with the musky bug ... there is no return lol. Good luck !! |

Location: St. Lawrence River | Chautauqua Lake... Prendergast Point, Long Point, and the Bell Tower.. look for maps online you will see where I mean.
Try to hook up with someone who has a boat that will take you out. Chautauqua or maybe even the Niagara River.

Location: Buffalo, NY | Dave, where in WNY? How far can you travel?
I'm in Buffalo, and know of two or three shore spots. Could guess a few in other areas. Boat's preferred in my region, but not necessary. Don't suppose you were the nice guy on the Upper Niagara River just starting out musky fishing, who i met Saturday Night? |
