I have been using 1/0 Mustad 35656 trebles on some of my basement baits but as the image attests they are somewhat lacking in strength. Any suggestions for a stronger hook in the same size?

How did these hooks bend? On the fish, in the net? I like these hooks because they penetrate easily. The only books i like better are super sharp black nickel versions of these.

Thanks for the replies. She gator rolled pretty good relatively high in the net and I suspect that is when they were straightened but will definitely back off more on the drag. Very much appreciate the input.

Mustad makes a great hook in the triple grip design....BUT, with my experience, Mustad hooks always seemed a bit softer than other trebles. I try to shy away from them!!! A lot better options out there....

VMC, Eagle Claw....ect...

I never worry too much about hooks bending in the net. I would be willing to bet that give is good for the fish when they thrash in the net. Thise hooks can easily be put back in shape with a tweak crom pliers. The thicker the hook the harder it can be to get a good hookset. Hook sharpness always a factor but a thinner sharp hook will set easier.

I always took it for granted that bent hook = "bad" and never even considered the possibility that bent hook = "good", depending on the context. Maybe I will stick with the Mustads after all!

All comments are greatly appreciated and have given me new perspectives to contemplate. I hope to be able to return the favor one day.

I use the Mustad 35656 and 3551 on a lot of baits. Like Todd said the thinner wire penetrates much better than say the VMC 9650. Personal preference I suppose. But the 3551's have been my favorite hook for a lot of applications.

The Owner ST-36 might be a good replacement hook for you. And like phishmasta said, loosen your drag.
