I have a 115 Mercury 4stroke and I'm thinking about getting a smartcraft gauge to adjust the rpms more precisely, as well having more engine monitering abilites. Does anyone have any experience with this? How hard is it to install?
Thanks in advance.

I did some research on this over the winter, I have a 2013 Merc 115 4 stroke.

Installation is easy, you run a smart craft cable from the motor to the dash and install the smart craft monitor. The problem I had was all my gauges are analog and not compatible with smart craft and I didn't want to swap everything out. Also, I'd have to install digital trim sensors and change out a couple other sensors on the motor for all the benefits of the system because my motor doesn't have them. I may revisit it in the fall and have the marina install what I need when I go to winterize the boat...

The Vessel View Mobile looks interesting, having the smartcraft info on your smartphone via bluetooth with the cost at $300. The install looks very easy, basically plug and play.

I really wish I could have smartcraft gauges on my '01 Optimax. Gotta watch the water temps and oil pressure.

Thanks for all the replies. After talking with a dealer and finding out how much it would cost to switch to all smartcraft guages they suggested I just go with Mercury Troll Control. $180 and I can adjust rpms the same as the smartcraft. Installation is just plug and play and mount the switch. Hopefully this might be useful for someone else as well.

Can't you monitor the later model Mercs through a Lowrance Gen 2 and up? There may be a module to buy for the merc. I'm looking into that for my new boat.
