Posts: 770 | Hey everybody, I'm wondering what everyone uses to hang or store frequently used Baits in at the bow of the boat. Usually after the first three hours of fishing I have a pile of 15 lures in the front of the boat. Looking for something I can either hang the lures from or hang them in to keep them off the ground and keep them from getting to Tangled. I'd rather not just stick the hooks in the carpet, requires more sharpening and more wear and tear on the boat. Any pictures of what you have /what you like would be awesome. I'm not a big fan of pedestal boxes, tried that in the past and they just get in the way. Thanks for any ideas

Posts: 735 Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | I don't know what kind of boat you have, but for me, I just hang them over the windshield. Obviously if I'm going to run the outboard I'll take them down but if I'm just on the trolling motor covering water I'll just do that. I've only got 1 windshield and I can fit almost 10 baits up there. What I plan to do this year is run a piece of foam across the top outside edge of the windshield so that way I can stick the hooks in that and won't have to take them down when running the outboard. (My windshield is low so I look over it anyway, the baits don't effect my sight) if I have the time tomorrow I'll try to post a pic of what I'm talking about.

Posts: 426 | I use a 5 gal bucket. Cut a 2 1/2 in hole in the center for the pedestal post, notch out the sides every 2 in around the rim and your done. Nice thing is the rim around the top of the bucket has multiple ridges. The ridges prevent the hook points from protruding past them when baits are hanging in the bucket. If you brush up against the bucket rim there is no chance of getting a hook caught in your leg or pants. I've been using this set up for years with no problems. Also if you fish from another boat it makes a great day tackle box.

Location: Eastern Ontario | 3 baits one on each rod, if you leave baits lying around in my boat you won't be getting back in. No bare feet allowed either. Baits belong in boxes, put it away.

I use the pedestal pal and works great for me, both for baits and for keeping release tools and file right there. But, since that is not an option, you might consider a strong nylon cord, knotted every so many inches and attached along the gunnel on both ends. Fished out of a boat years ago where the owner did that and it worked well. He had fashioned a large "washer" out of plastic, milk jug I think, and snugged those against the knots. That helped separate hooks. Whole thing only cost a few cents and hung a lot of baits. Just had to make sure net didn't tangle in the baits if you went to net a fish in that area of the boat.

That's the reason for the foam and the reason they get hung on the INSIDE of the windshield. Haven't got hit in the face but when I hung them on the outside of the windshield I did lose some (luckily I tried this the first time while bass fishing). But with the foam and hanging them on the inside I think I should be alright.

Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | I honestly can't stand baits laying around either. Sooner or later they will pin the net shut by mistake when you have a big one on. I know I have posted this before on other threads, but I made a bait box that goes directly in front of the console of my Tuffy. It is small enough I can still open the rod locker, the compartment in the front, and lay rods next to the console without moving it. I have to move it to get into the compartment underneath it so I have lesser used items in there. I made the box to store baits, and other commonly used items and it really keeps things organized and in there place. Let me know if you have question on it. Posts: 291 Location: Madison, WI | I use a product made by Boatmates. Called their hook hanger. It comes with suction cups but just throw those out and screw it in. Also holds a luhr Jensen file on top. Holds prob 15 baits or so. I think Gander/cabelas sells them. Attachments ---------------- shopping.jpg (5KB - 383 downloads)

Posts: 735 Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | The one PredLuR is similier to the design I'm going to make. I just put mine on the windshield because sometimes I have my dog with me. It's also just a good idea to keep hooks away from your feet.

Location: SE Wisconsin | Just Encase pedestal lure storage. I can change out the tubes pending the lure sizes. In the spring I have the shorter tubes in as I'm using smaller baits, and in the summer I change the tubes out for the taller ones so I can hang rubber without them piling on the boat floor. Plus it has storage for all my tools. One of the best designs IMO. Attachments ---------------- Downsized2.jpg (149KB - 383 downloads) Downsized7s.jpg (137KB - 389 downloads)

Posts: 347 Location: Vilas County, WI | I've never seen that Boatmate hanger thing before. I like it! Sometimes when I hit the water I'll pull out 6 - 8 baits I may want to throw or have available for the day. Those Boatmate's would help with that.
