And he is a great muskie fisherman too! This from the IGFA:

"Larry Dahlberg has fished for more than 50 years in 80 countries and is the host of The Hunt for Big Fish. He created the unique “Dahlberg Diver” fly and is responsible for many other fishing innovations including the blank-thru off-set bait casting handle design, rod balancer and the popular jig and fly tying material Flashabou. He was awarded the Henshall Award by the Federation of Fly Fishers in 1990, inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 1996 and was the recipient of the 1999 IGFA Conservation Award. "

I met Larry last year at the MN Expo, he was a great guy to chat with. Very down to earth kind of guy that was into talking fishing and not too big of a "star" to avoid talking to anyone.

I am surprised he isn't in that hall of fame already. Well deserved.

Most notable contributions to the sport, offering to take another local angler to the water. Unfortunately the boat never left the garage.

That's great to hear. Unlike "stars" who write that they want you to come up to them at shows to "talk muskies", but then are completely standoff-ish, distracted, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else, and bail out early. Go Larry! Keyes is fun to talk to as well at a show.

I would guess Keyes would be easy to talk to. One of the people in my department showed me a photo of her husband, Brett Alexander and Keyes. Her husband had been out with Alexander and caught his personal best, a 54.5" and Alexander had apparently called Keyes and told him. When they got back to shore, Keyes came over to congratulate him. He said Keyes seemed genuinely excited for him, shook his hand and slapped him on the back.
