Posts: 7010 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Had a wedding Saturday, got out Sunday with an old friend. Fish were definitely looking at the suckers, but no bites. How did all of you do out there?

Posts: 32789 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I worked all weekend and hung out with Sue because I'm headed out of town again this week. Keith got one on a Suzy Sucker, and one on a sucker.

Posts: 705 Location: Alex or Alek? | Got out both saturday and sunday as it was our annual "lenie classic" with some freinds. Our boat had 16+ fish up in our boat through-out the weekend. managed to put on smaller fish(34.5) in the net. We need to start sucker fishing more, we missed 2 from getting a tad bit excited. Quite the weather change between saturday and sunday though. It didn't seam to effect the fish to much though. Edited by MOJOcandy101 10/24/2016 11:09 AM

Posts: 60 Location: NW Indiana | Fished northern Wisconsin, 2 fish on glide baits (39.5/41) within an hour of each other and two swipes near the boat the rest of the time. Dragged suckers every day but didnt get touched. Surprised to see water temps in the mid 50s on one lake.

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | 44" on Friday (sucker) and 46" on Saturday (sucker). Two other fish got free sucker lunches on Friday but that was it for action. Typically a much more productive annual trip to this spot, but no complaints overall about two quality fish. Water levels way up and warm temps did not do us any favors. Fish VERY shallow. Posts: 1828 | Sunday evening lost two at the boat on suckers. Saw one more and had two other takes that dropped it within a few seconds. These were all in 15 - 20 ft. Spent some time casting shallow and saw nothing. Oh and I watched another boat net what looked like a nice muskie as I was launching my boat. water temp was 49. mid-sized, clear water, somewhat deep lake.

Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | Caught 3 today on the same squirko: 30, 43 and 44". Saw bait balls sitting just off of vertical structure so I started casting. Got all 3 around the morning major then nothing else all day. Best day so far in my home state.

Posts: 133 | We fished Thursday through Sunday and caught one 42 inch fish. Two other misses on suckers and one sucker mauling. One for four over three and a half days of dragging suckers. On the lakes we fished, water was anywhere from 50 to 54 degrees. I can't seem to get a hook into a musky from a sucker rig. I was zero for two. one free lunch and one had the sucker T-boned and just missed getting a hook into the mouth. Don't know what else I can do. Any advice?

Posts: 400 Location: Metro | Put a nice 45 fatty into the boat on Sunday with a sucker. Rigged the sucker up on a lake I have only fished once. Dropped it down and started to put my bibs on. Before I could get my bibs half way the clicker started to go. Let her take it for a bit and repositioned the boat. Set the hooks and held on. Nice to get my first sucker fish in the books.

Posts: 35 | Not a #*^@ thing. Over 10 hrs on Saturday, and 5 hrs on Sunday. My buddy had a 33" northern smack his sucker...but that was the only action all weekend. Not even a follow.

Posts: 431 | We fished the US side of LSC Saturday for a couple hours and had 2 missed strikes and a follow. Then after a full night of sturgeon fishing (caught 5 channel cats and a mudpuppy) we fished the Thames Sunday afternoon. We caught a 40 incher there and that was the only fish we saw caught out of the 20+ boats fishing there. I think it was the luck of the lure landing right on top of the fish because my buddy had barely engaged his reel when he got the strike. Fun weekend with old friends but I wish I could have put them on some more successful fishing.

Im interested in the replies to this as well.. How long you letting them take the bait before setting the hook? Seen in couple posts down that guy let them take the bait while he repositioned the boat so that tells me he waiting good bit IMO to set the hook...Id have to really concentrate to do this as I would be so excited hearing the bait bail clicking...Ive never got one on suckers so I cant answer this but something to consider....just totally amazing to me the hook up rate with sucker rigs with all them big hooks there cant believe the success rate not way higher..

Location: Contrarian Island | you'll never get 100% of them, yah you can go 5 for 5, or 10 for 10 at times but over the course of a few seasons if you bat .750 that is pretty good... I like to get the fish swimming directly away from me, say 10 feet away from the boat, I set up and to the side some.... hit em hard, waiting no more than 30 sec to a minute to get the boat at the right angle, net man ready etc...
