Posts: 10 | I've been making and selling topwaters and bucktails for some time now for some time now and they run great and catch a lot fish for people but i'm always looking to make things better...Right now im building some tail rotating topwaters and i have always bent the tail prop rather sharply but i would like a smoother more rounded cup to the prop for a little deeper plopping sound...i have tried a few things like using 2 metal rods in a vice with the prop in between the rods but the bend in the prop still isn't as smooth and rounded as i'd like...Any tips or tricks? I am using the tallywacker style tails from LureParts Online..Thanks in advance Attachments ---------------- IMG_20160908_211415_379 (1).jpg (120KB - 465 downloads) Picture0829161146_4.jpg (101KB - 454 downloads)

Posts: 44 | I put a metal rod of the desired diameter in my vice and then hammer the prop onto the rod. I have a small, smooth hammer that I use just for that purpose. To provide additional protection for the finish of the prop during the hammering process you can cover it with a thin piece of wood or metal if needed.

this did pretty good and smooth with .035" stainless. Just got it and took about 20 seconds to do these. will take some trial and error to get down the shapes I like. Its spendy but I justified it with my wifes jewelry making hobby as she will use it too. Posts: 10 | Thanks for the ideas! that jewelers contraptions does a very fine job, those cupped props should make a killer sound....i decided to go the other route for now and found a piece of 1" pvc laying around the shop and used a vice grip covered with cloth(so i dont ding the prop) to clamy my prop to the pvc and bend it around with a mallet covered in cloth....the vice grip fits perfectly inside the pvc and it works like a charm...i made some marks on the pipe so i can line up my props and make the same bend everytime.....ive got a bunch of lures on the drying wheel right now and bent up all the props in maybe 10 minutes if that....i also changed the design of my tail rotator a bit and moved the prop all the way to the rear of the tail just to make it more durable and make a deeper sound....thanks again for the ideas and info!

Posts: 833 | How are you cutting the initial shape to bend, I've always been curious about that? As an aside, does anyone know what material is used on the pacemaker blade?

As an aside, does anyone know what material is used on the pacemaker blade? Trace your pattern on the brass or whatever material and cut with a tin snips. Us a grinder or dremel tool to get down to final shape. Smooth edges with some emery cloth.
