Posts: 198 | FYI. This was in the local paper the other day. They are getting organized up here after they saw what happened in western Mn.
Onions: To the DNR for stocking 4,000 muskies in Lake Vermilion every year. There are too many already. You have seriously damaged the once excellent walleye fishery. The locals and property owners hate the muskies. I’ve talked to lots of cabin owners who used to catch walleyes off their docks .... not anymore with the muskies lurking. Also, Onions to the two resort owners who bragged about how much money they make off the muskie fisherman. If there were no muskies and the lake was a quality walleye fishery you would make a lot more money than you do now. For every muskie fisherman, there are 100 walleye fishermen. Don’t believe the DNR lies when they say muskies don’t harm the walleyes. Big fish eat smaller fish. Come on people let’s get fired up about this. I will be going on social media to warn people not to spend their money here. There are lots of walleyes in Kabetogama and Rainy, go there instead.

Posts: 198 | Walleye nmbers are excellent in all basins except the west end where there are no eating size fish. 60 percent of walleyes sampled there were big. Thats where the concern is.

Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | There are truly too many toothy predators on vermilion eating all of the walleye, each with a different color boat.

Posts: 1126 Location: Minnesota. | Biggest muskie I saw in July came up from a flat I was fishing, 22 ft of water, 2" behind my Lindy/leech as I was reeling in! Mebbe they have something...*grins* FWIW I think most complainers are whiners who are experiencing the ebb n' flow of walleye fishing...

Posts: 28 | I was just in LOTW, met a few old timers at camp who were walleye fishing. Fishing for them was good, real good, they were catching 30-40 a morning. The one guy has been going up to this same camp for 40 years he said. I asked him, "how does fishing compare today over all the years he's been going up there..." He says, " fishing has never been better, but we can't keep anything, used to be able to keep a lot of fish back in the day..." Funny that these people can't recognize they kill way more than the muskies eat, and keep blaming the musky vs. the fisherman for decimated fishing populations - morons.

Posts: 1220 | I've fished Mille Lacs, Tonka, Leech, and the Big Vee and I think this is clearly more noticeable in Minnesota than (let's say) Wisconsin where the walleye guys are more ready to blame Native Americans for the demise of the once mighty walleye population. I've been insulted and trash-talked personally as Mille Lacs, and didn't like it much. Let's face it, we don't accept the things we don't like as the result of vastly complicated issues. We like to find a "boogie man" and jump on some sort of a narrow minded train of similar thinking (yet uneducated) blamers who give us something really easy and simple to blame.

Posts: 8717 | It's interesting to see the looks when you tell people a muskie only eats one fish every couple days... maybe a perch, maybe a sucker or a bullhead, maybe a walleye. Then you point to a sea of boats and say "then there's all those people taking their limit of walleyes day after day after day..." Sometimes the little light goes on. More often than not, it doesn't...

Posts: 3136 | What are they thinking???muskies eat metal things with tinsel and spin 1000 revolutions a minute. They eat plastic things kinda painted like walleyes but some are painted like bumble bees.!!! And they eat wood things that slide left-right-left-right like me after a martini lunch. But "dammit" they don't eat walleye s the DNR programs this into them along with pit tags at the hatchery!!!!!

Posts: 347 Location: Vilas County, WI | Anyone see the Musky Hunter article a few months back? Biologists pumped the stomachs of nearly 1100 muskies. And of those near 1100 muskies only a total of 5, YES 5 walleyes were found in their gut. Edited by TheShow 8/22/2016 10:57 PM
