| If you are in chicagoland check out owl hardwood lumber. They have every type of wood imaginable. I am not in chicagoland and i just buy cedar 1x8s from menards. They have 1 side rough sawn though. I just cut my blanks and then belt sand the rough sawn side smooth. |

| I went to Home Depot and they had nothing but junk. Menards had some decent boards with a couple knots here and there. |

| I use clear cedar decking 5/4x6x8 it is smooth both sides it runs about $24 a board (western red)
you can also try spanish cedar I have not found any clear eastern white

| I get mine from the local saw mill if you look around you will find a cheap source. |
