Hey all,

Once late fall roles around I like using pounder bulldogs and the like. I'm fishing deeper water for huge fish. She will probably have a hard time throwing these big baits. Does anyone have any recommendations on what some good deep water late fall baits would be for someone who can't throw the big stuff for huge deep fish?

What about a big, sinking/suspending, weighted dive & rise...Big Daddy or Fat AZ Raptor?

Or...slow rolled Super Model or Cowgirl?

My girlfriend throws RO monster tubes and regular medusas in the late season when she's out with me. They aren't heavy baits and still fish deeper water efficiently.

A big willow leaf spinnerbait isn't too bad. I have had some luck in the fall slow rolling a Flashy Serial Killer.

All good stuff guys. Thanks. The sucker idea is always an option but if I'm casting she will want to cast. Suckers may get some attention though.

Second the big spinnerbait option. You can control depth with speed. Perfect for the breaks. Cast and reel in...too easy. Cari like's throwing a Tandem and Magnum Nutbusters in the fall. That is of course if I can get her out in the boat when its cold haha.

My sister went with us last November. Her rod isn't really rated big enough for pounders. She mainly threw a regular medusa. Spent a little time with the 2nd to largest hardhead, and spent a bunch of time on a Bondy St. Clair Grub. It's got a big tail so it's long like a pounder but doesn't have the mass of a pounder. Plus you can change the head weight. Kind of in between a mag dawg and a pounder.

With the right tackle she might be able to lob the 8 oz Hardhead without too much trouble, and they are easy to work. Or even 9" Curly Sues or Regular Dawgs.

Another option would be a Triple D or Depthraider or Ernie. Easy to cast, run deep, not hard to work. Tom Gelb caught a monster in late fall row trolling a Depthraider, and that's far from a huge bait.

I'd agree with any deeper running crank... even a 9" Grandma really doesn't pull hard at all straight cranking and a great choice....
another thought was a reg or mag shadzilla

I think a crank will be probably her best option. I just need to convince her that it will actually work. If I'm not throwing it, she thinks it's the wrong thing and won't catch anything. I do own a shadzilla too. She'd like that because it actually looks like a fish. I hope she can stay motivated fishing late fall because you guys know how it can be.

Before all of this make sure she has either a state of the art waterproof set of gloves or about 6 or 7 pairs to change into,,casting in late fall means cold numbing hands.

Likes the cold or the fishing? We've been trying like heck to get her first muskie this year. Lots of chances at really big fish but a little bad luck She'll make it happen soon though. It's been fun!

Fishing and fall musky fishing are much different. I have done 12 day backcountry backpacking in the mountains here in CO with my wife and plenty of fishing but I know she would not enjoy fall musky fishing. Was just pointing out you might not have an issue if cold long days on the water aren't her thing.

Kirby, your girlfriend actually casts?!?! Mine does for 5 minutes and then reads in the back, via moonlight or Humminbird backlighting. When I find her snoring on the boat floor, I know it's time to go. She is NOT a prime candidate for fall fishing. I agree with the other, give her a 9" grandma. If she doesn't think they work I've got plenty of pics to prove otherwise.
